  1. It was either Buddha or Bubba - you know, the one with the fat belly.
  2. I had another shot of it but can't find it. I took a picture from the front. If I can find it I'll post it.
  3. I went to a hot rod show and was going through some of the pictures and found this Plymouth. Just thought I'd share.
  4. I saw an overdrive on the bay and had a few questions: if you put in an OD does the drive shaft have to be shortened? Is this OD electric? Is that a nightmare to put it in? Does it help on the freeway? Lower RPMs? I think he's asking over $800 - is that in the ball park? It would probably cost another $800 to have it shipped. just curious
  5. At first I thought I was the only one but I can see now that Jeanette doesn't discriminate. I wonder if Buddha has any leads on car parts. I was thinking if we join the club and get enlightened we will get inner peace and find those hard to find Plymouth clocks. What's next: Mormons?
  6. Just for what it's worth - I was on the bay, a guy had what seemed like a very clean 47 2 door sedan. The story was his father owned it and died and he just wanted to get rid of it. It seemed a little too good to be true but I contacted him. Got a couple of friends and made a road trip to Phoenix. The car was as advertised and I paid him when I picked up the car. His father was in the process of restoring it so it was in pretty good shape. The son had no desire to keep it and just wanted to off load it. Sometimes they can be true.
  7. You're right - I did see those.
  8. I went to the Hot Rod show in Pamona Saturday and while I was impressed with the amount of craft and power I was disappointed that there was a poor showing for MoPar. There were the usual 'muscle' cars (I have one or two pictures) and a lot of 'trailer queens.' The one picture I got of a MoPar was in the parking lot. There are people with a lot more time one their hands than I could ever have and a lot more money that I will ever have. Some of the engines must cost more than my entire car. I'll see if I can get the picture to post.
  9. I hope you don't think this is a silly question but can they be fixed? Mine was not working (I think) so I got a used one on the bay. The brand new one I saw went for more than I could afford. My friend, after sucking on it, said the used one I bought didn't work either. I know the purpose of the vacuum advance - will it hurt anything if they don't work? Won't it just affect the acceleration? If they can't be fixed is there some one that deals in them? I haven't had much luck with used ones.
  10. Do they have beer?
  11. I went to a swap meet and found a 6v timing light - but I've never seen them in stores. I got a 6v tach and dwell from Sears.
  12. I just thought I'd jump in here before everyone gets too serious. While I know gas was cheaper - when I was in high school, working at my uncle's gas station, gas was 23 cents a gallon. You could get a McDonald's hamburger for .19 A stamp was .03 I don't smoke but when I was in high school a pack of cigarettes was .25 We don't even want to go what a new Plymouth cost. To put it all in perspective I washed dishes for .90 an hour. The house I lived in was $14,000 (3 bed, 2 bath) in San Bruno, CA. I don't remember who said it but the sad part of this is the legacy we are passing on.
  13. I'm going to see if I can get some of the pictures bigger.
  14. My wife was speaking to me as I was typing and forgot to finish the sentence. What I was about to say is it was worth the 2 hour drive. I got 2 usable fenders. A very clean valance from between the body and rear bumper. 2 door strikers. I passed on some door glass but it was there. Now the other thing is I managed to get the pictures posted but they are so small it's hard to see the detail. I'll keep trying. I would have walked around more but last week there was a massive rain shower and the whole lot was a sea of mud and I couldn't get to a lot of the cars. a side note: None of the cars looked wrecked - they all had pretty straight bodies. I'll try to see if I can get a bigger picture to load. sorry
  15. I'm not going to promise that I'll be able to do this. I got one picture up once. It seems all my pictures are too big and it's only by trial and error that I get them reduced. But there are lots of MoPars. I will try to figure out how to get one or two on the forum. Other wise I'm not sure. Here goes. I've got more pix of different years - again, if you're interested I will try to post them. The place is called Turner's Wrecking in Fresno, CA. It was worth the 2
  16. There are several places I've called in So. Cal. and they must all get together because they all quoted me the same price $250 - $300. That's the good places and the bad and that's just the bumper. One of the problems is the environmental issues. I've heard that some places ship the bumpers to Mexico. There is a lady at Van Nuys Plating who said if I send her a picture of all the stuff I want chromed she would give me a quote. Linda@vannuysplating.com good luck
  17. Gentleman I thank you one and all - I guess it's good to ask opinions from people as crazy as me because then you get to hear what you want to hear. Not everybody understands the draw of old cars. If I really wanted to waste money I'd buy a boat. I'm leaving tomorrow for this junk yard in Fresno, CA. The guy said they have 10,000 cars - I probably won't count them all but I will take my camera and try to share some pictures. The windshield on my P15 was scratched so I had new glass cut. Now I've got to figure out what to do with the old glass. Do you think that might sell on e-bay?
  18. I always buy things and every one tells me I could have got it for less somewhere else. I found 2 front fenders for my Plymouth - the guy says they are a 9 out of 10. $325 each. I called the guy working on my car and he said it would cost more than that to fix my old fenders. I bought a fender on e-bay for $100 but these fenders I found were from a junk yard and I'm sure he knows what they are worth. any comments?
  19. Thank you very much - I guess I will Google them. How does the tinting work? Would that be considered 'stock'? I don't think I've ever noticed a stock old car with tinted windows. That doesn't mean they aren't out there.
  20. I'm having my Plymouth restored (I'm not talented enough to do it). The mechanic said the windshield was scratched and I should replace them. I've been calling some places that deal in old cars and they want a lot of money for a used windshield. For a lark I called an auto glass place and they said they would cut a new windshield for me for $65 @. My question - is there a special glass? Has anyone had glass cut? I'm afraid I'll get it back and it won't fit. second question: all the window channeling I've found is 5/8" - the stuff I've pulled out of my car is 1/2". Will that 1/8" make a difference. I was looking at Restoration Specialties catalog on line - they have a part 3a1 that fits "Chrysler Corp. Cars 30s & 40s" and it's 5/8". thanks
  21. Robert Smith this might be a little far away for you but it would be worth the drive for peace of mind. I knew I was in the right place when I walked in and they were working on a V 16 Lincoln. They rebuilt my 218 and knew all the little things you would hope they would know. At least give them a call: Adams Metallizing & Grinding 44632 N. Trevor Ave. Lancaster, CA 93539 661 942 9538 Hope this works - I've been pleased.
  22. I went to the guy doing my car and at first he seemed offended that I would suggest such a thing to him. He already knew of the ill effects of blasting and said he's been doing this for such a long time that he was aware and took precautions. It's going in next week. In the mean time I've got to start rounding up parts. The problem is the guy working on my car doesn't seem to realize that I actually have to work and can't spend all my time chasing parts. this should be another thread but let me sneak it in: Chrome!! I probably should re chrome the bumpers. It seems to be harder and harder to find someone because of the environmental issues. I found one place that will do a bumper for $300. How does that sound?
  23. I'm still new at this picture thing - I hope this comes out. I just went down to see my car. Next week it's going to the sand blaster. It's all kind of scary to me. I just know that I never could have done it.
  24. Every now and then I see someone post an item on e-bay that I've not seen. So I was wondering what category do you put? I have: 1948 Plymouth, 1948 Plymouth parts and accessories I'm sure there are other combinations that could net more stuff - any suggestions?
  25. I did it!! Hot damn! Thanks for all your help. Now I can ask questions and offer a picture as reference.
