  1. Norm: Where is the legends burger joint? It would probably be a drive for me but now that I've got my 47 licensed it's about time for a road trip. I still don't have the tail lights working yet but it's coming along.
  2. Thank you - I'm looking.
  3. While this should be an easy fix I'm sure it won't come in for less than $1000... If I come up to a stop sign, down shift from 3 to 2 let my foot off the clutch and it pops out of gear. It also does it in 1st and 3rd when coasting. Are the gears worn out, will getting the trans rebuilt help, is it something else? Everything else works fine. btw: 47 P15 stock
  4. Old MoPar - you got it - those are the pictures I was sent. I knew if I got them they were old. Thank you. This is way off topic - I passed a gas station today and noticed that cigarettes and gas are about the same price now. When I was a kid cigarettes and gas were the same price .25 a gallon/pack. The more things change the more they stay the same.
  5. A friend of mine e-mailed me a bunch of pictures of old gas stations but I don't know how to transfer e-mail to the forum. Can it be done? The other thing is if I got it it's probably been around the world already. Just a thought - they did bring back memories - but that's not hard because I've got so many of them.
  6. Don, I like the pix of the frame - I've got a 48 Chevy pick up in the same shape. My question is about the brakes - I like what you've done with them - just curious about how efficient they are.
  7. The web site is from the Onion. They also print a paper which is hilarious... they take stories and write seriously about topics. I didn't know they had a web site - but then I guess everybody does.
  8. You paid $45 for that piece of paper? Wow!
  9. Remember: Death and taxes
  10. Inserts - that's the good news. Are they available? And before I get too anxious are rings available? I don't think Chevy had insert bearings until 54 - that's just a guess.
  11. I've seen white smoke when they elect a pope and I guess that's a good thing. I was out for a drive today in my 47. Going down hill when I take my foot off the gas lots of white smoke. Is that rings? I haven't done a compression test yet (I'm waiting for it to warm up). That should tell me shouldn't it? Does the 47 218 have babbet bearings or inserts? I know once I start with one thing it ends up being everything.
  12. I'm not sure where it's written but I know it to be a fact: When taking multiple bolts off it's always the last one that breaks. And when torquing them down a friend gave me sage advice: Tighten till it breaks and then back off 1/4 turn. When I broke my head bolt I was having the engine rebuilt anyway so I let the machinist take it out. I'm lazy.
  13. I was told that in my Toyota I had to use a multi grade oil. No problem. But since I'm an old timer I use straight 30w in the Plymouth. I've never seen the oils you guys mentioned. Where do you get it. I've been using Penzoil and it seems to work.
  14. Kudos to all you Plymouth lovers. I am constantly amazed at how much information flows through this forum. Even when I'm not really looking for something it shows up. It's hard to believe when someone has a question about a radio the answers are so in depth you could probably build a new radio from the posts. Some of you guys that let this information out like it was no big deal are a God send. I never realized how many klutzes, like me, are out there. You guys show so much patience and I am thankful. I don't mean to get mushy - I've started collecting web sites - I've got a folder that is beginning to cover everything from head lights to tail lights. Now if I just had a way to pay for it. d-
  15. What about windows? what do you use to get overspray off windows? I've got all the glass out - I'm going to have some new windows made but I'd like to keep some - and those are the ones with over spray. I worry that something like SOS will leave scratches.
  16. Norm I've been busted - there is only one exhaust - the other is just a tail pipe. It sort of came with the car. I was going to take it off but there were always more important things to do. My 4 door does have dual exhaust - when I get that back from the painters I'll show you.
  17. Everybody seems to have such nice cars. I don't mean to brag but this 47 has been in my garage for over a year and it finally runs. Push the button and it fires right up. So the time has come to finally come out of the closet er, I mean garage that is. It still has a way to go but I'm sure you can see the potential.
  18. What kind of buffing wheel? Is this this kind that goes on my hand polisher or table grinder? I will find the other stuff as well.
  19. I thought I did this last night but I can't find it - so let's try again. I'm having my car painted so all the bright work is off. I was going to polish it but a friend said it wasn't chrome but stainless - my question is what do I use to polish stainless? I'm sure it can't be anything too abrasive but what? Steel wool? Brasso? Stuff like the tail light bezels I think I'm going to have rechromed unless someone knows how to get the little pits out. I really can't imagine getting a beautiful paint job and putting dirty chrome back on. Thanks, in advance
  20. Thank you and your point was duly noted.
  21. I'm sure if I asked the right questions with all the knowledge on this forum someone would have told me. That's way too easy - I guess if it's not learned the hard way it's not as much fun. I bought a 47 2 door sedan. I bought it from a kid. It belonged to his dad and the kid had no interest in it. (here's the clue) it had been sitting for about 7 years. After the usual preliminary stuff I got it running. It would run but just would not start. Rebuilt the starter. New battery. Larger cables. Timing. It would run but not without pouring gas down the throat. The old boy across the street (my hero) asked if it could be the carb. No says I because it runs. Check it he says. Pulled the top off and the needle had a little crud on it. Took out the float and the inside of the bowl was full of (what's the technical term for ****?) I took the carb off, took it apart, soaked it in cleaner. The car starts with the push of the button. It's always something stupid. I learned a valuable lesson. (also got a new Optima battery) Thanks for listening.
  22. What a great link - I'll check into it. It will be so much easier that all the other BS. I knew I could count on you guys. Thank you - Thank you.
  23. Last year I bought a car in Arizona and trailered it home to California. It didn't run, no brakes - the usual. I never really took it to the DMV because it didn't run so I never registered it. Last week end I finally got it running - cool. I got today off so I was going to go to DMV and register it. I can't find the paper work. Calif DMV won't do anything without the pink slip. AZ won't issue a pink slip without the guy's signature. I got it on the bay - so asking some guy to venture into DMV to get a replacement pink slip for some crazy old man is a stretch. I can't (I sure hope I can't) be the only guy who has tried to register an out of state car with no pink slip. There must be a way to do it. When I bought my 4 door it was out in the desert - no pink. I guess what made that easy is it is a California car. I've torn the garage apart. I found an extra radio, the ash tray for the back of the seat - but no paper work. any ideas?
  24. Wow!! I'm not sure but it almost looks like the guy did that on purpose. I didn't think they were that cool when they were cool.
  25. I was looking at the pictures of the o'drive and noticed that it has a chipped tooth. How would you find a gear like that? I would feel uneasy using that. With my luck the gear would break apart at full speed and destroy all the other gears. I like the idea of overdrive - $800 is steep considering it would have to be rebuilt. I think I'll do what I always do and wait until the price goes up before I decide. The trans on my 4 door was completely rebuilt - if it ain't broke - I guess I could spend my tax refund to help the economy grow.
