Looks good, Jeff. I bet it's much nicer to work on with the rotisserie. I would love to have one, I am itching to haul the body off the frame but have resisted so far, because I don't have a contraption like yours Pat

Must be an error in the auto calculation of shipping. No-one could seriously charge that much for those two little mounts. I wonder if the seller is aware of the glitch?

Nice set of motor mounts. $5.00 opening bid. Check out the $70.54 shipping cost!!!!! I over-reacted. Still gotta read the details. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1941-1950-Dodge-Chrys-Desoto-Motor-Mounts_W0QQitemZ160101516074QQcategoryZ42606QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Pics of the 251 engine attached to the stand. The engine is tilted a bit while I was chasing the head bolt threads. Hope it helps.

Interesting concept, poor execution. I think maybe if he used the metal frame for the windsheild as well, that may have worked better. -
According to the book "70 Years of Chrysler" the reason for the delay, which affected all 4 lines, was tooling difficulties and material shortages. The new 1949's appeared about Jan 1 1949. Retooling for the new 1949 models cost Chrysler Corp 90 million, but they were rewarded with calendar year sales of 1,267,470 cars and trucks which was the highest in it's history.

Smaller boosters are readily available from many sources. I dont think the firewall on the Caprice was any stouter than yours, so you should be fine. It's the bracket that matters and if your installation is close the way it was installed in the Caprice, you should have the same structural reliability the Caprice had. You should check under the dash of the Caprice to see if there were any structural brackets that went from the dash to the firewall at a 45 from the point where the bracket and dash meet. You may want to try to use those or make up something.

Nice car. Pretty good bones to start with. I'd like to see a few close-ups of the front suspension, not something I've seen before.

That's truly a sad story. I wonder how much more of our old stuff will be tossed when we're gone by heirs who have no idea what they have and have no interest in it. I recently made up my will and I asked around what people thought of the old car project, and was surprised a bit at the response. "Well, if it makes you happy..." I don't have kids, but I do have 8 nephews, 12 to 23. One is mildly curious, but wouldn't continue the project, just sell everything, as would the others. So, that was what I was going to put in the will...that it all be sold and the proceeds be divided up. That is until my neighbors kid was over in the garage last fall. 25 and a car nut big time. He has dropped by to shoot the breeze and has actually helped me with quite a few projects over the 5 or so years I've been there. He even said I was the reason he bought his 51 Chevy he has rodded. So, I asked him the same question I asked my nephews. "WOW", he said, "I would finish it just the way you said you were going to do it and drive it!" I asked what he would do with the tools in my garage. "I would keep them and use them, I love tools!" He had no idea why I was asking because he knows 3 of my nephews and just assumed the stuff would go to them. It's going to the neighbor kid, lock stock and barrel. All the woodworking tools, everything. Funny how the nephews changed their tune when they found out there is some $30.000 bucks worth of crap involved. Too late. I've made up my mind and it's in writing. There are also bills of sale in with the will just in case someone wants to challenge the will I hope it's some time before he gets his mitts on the stuff, but I know he will appreciate it when the time comes. I think if the stuff means something and what happens to it after you are done with it means something, you should make sure the right person is getting it for the right reasons.

Ryan, The one I used was from a '74, a bit different than the one in your diagram but the equivalent to #5. I think your diagram is for a 72 which lacks the depth under the dash for this use. The one I used was on a 1948 REO truck cab that I installed on the 74 Chevy chassis. The bracket fit like a glove under the REO dash and mounted the pedal, column and brake booster/master cylinder just like in the Chevy. No mods needed in that area on that vehicle.

Fred, you better go back to the beginning and change the thread title to SPRING is here in Manitoba. Keep this thing alive for another season:D

73-85 Chevy/GMC has a bracket under the dash that hangs the steering column, the pedals, and the master cylinder. Very short and versatile for early dashboards.

Although Global reported on Gore's presentation in the senate on the six o'clock news last night, they failed to mention this ? GORE REFUSES TO TAKE PERSONAL ENERGY ETHICS PLEDGE March 21, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: MARC MORANO 202-224-5762 March 21, 2007 marc_morano@epw.senate.gov MATT DEMPSEY 202-224-9797 matthew_dempsey@epw.senate.gov GORE REFUSES TO TAKE PERSONAL ENERGY ETHICS PLEDGE WASHINGTON, DC – Former Vice President Al Gore refused to take a "Personal Energy Ethics Pledge" today to consume no more energy than the average American household. The pledge was presented to Gore by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, during today's global warming hearing. Senator Inhofe showed Gore a film frame from "An Inconvenient Truth" where it asks viewers: "Are you ready to change the way you live?" Click Here for Link to Chart Gore has been criticized for excessive home energy usage at his residence in Tennessee. His electricity usage is reportedly 20 times higher than the average American household. It has been reported that many of these so-called carbon offset projects would have been done anyway. Also, carbon offset projects such as planting trees can take decades or even a century to sequester the carbon emitted today. So energy usage today results in greenhouse gases remaining in the atmosphere for decades, even with the purchase of so-called carbon offsets. "There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did. Don't give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do," Senator Inhofe told Gore. "Are you willing to make a commitment here today by taking this pledge to consume no more energy for use in your residence than the average American household by one year from today?" Senator Inhofe asked. Senator Inhofe then presented Vice President Gore with the following "Personal Energy Ethics Pledge: refer link above: As a believer: · that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival; · that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use; · that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and · that leaders on moral issues should lead by example; I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008." Gore refused to take the pledge. See Senator Inhofe's Opening Statement from today's hearing http://epw.senate.gov/public/i.....ad-49d8-42ef79986e5e So, if he won't cut his own usage, and he wants US to cut OURS, what's his game? It's not global warming, so what is it? -

Don't know why I didn't think of these before. Designed to heat the coolant in an engine in the winter, there are several different styles available. http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441888979&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672419&bmUID=1174534856724 The whole selection: http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441888979&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672419&bmUID=1174534856724 The "Polar Pad" would be ideal to maintain temp safely, or a curculating block heater to warm quickly, and safely. Economical, too. ($99.95can) Lower Rad Hose Coolant Heater: ($39.95can.)
