  1. My mom and I were going through some old documents of my grandfather's and found this receipt for service on a truck. I am not sure if it is my old Dolly Dodge or not. It is dated Aug 1950, so I suspect it was the old dodge he had before Dolly, which he got in 1950. Anyway, kid of cool. S "Sammie". P. Griffith was the Dodge dealer in Bishop. Thee was another repair order on the back of the attached repair order for removal of an engine on a hay baler and some repairs only $50.
  2. I got my heater core back from Brassworks, they did a really nice job. Now all that is left is to assemble the heater and install it in my truck. Vey exciting.
  3. Funny, I had similar experience with Dolly, whether to go or no go. On our way to the Sesquicentennial for Inyo County, about a 50 mile drive, old Dolly's generator issue popped up again. I stopped at my folks house and tried to get it working right but couldn't, it was either go home or head down the road and hoped it all worked out. I decided to chance it and head down the road. I lucked out and it got to working again on its own and we had a successful round trip. I had the same problem with the fuel pump pin on the original fuel pump a couple years ago,, besides it leaked like a sieve, the new replacement pump has been perfect so far.
  4. Dolly has been keeping busy running to the dump, and just cruising down the highway. I sent the heater core off to be rebuilt and just finished painting the heater case. I got a new heater motor, so once the core comes back it should all go together well. Very cool to me. When I brought Dolly to my house 7 years ago the heater was the first thing I took out and it looks to be the last I put back. You can see on the front a couple rough spots of old paint. I need to fix those. I thought I had it sanded down well, but when I cleaned it and use the metal prep solution in lifted some of the paint. I didn't see it, because I painted with out my glasses...grrr, anyway I will clean it up and put another coat on, but it looks good, way better than it did when it came out, full of mouse and rat droppings.
  5. Thanks Jeff but I almost have mine done. I will stick with the one I have.
  6. I got it from Vintage Power Wagons, the the same one is available form www.caparadiator.net It was a just a tad smaller in diameter than my original.
  7. Hey John, the core is not leaking as far as I could tell, but the intake/outlet pipes are fairly beat up and out of true, and it leaked around the hoses. The shop back east I found that specializes in heaters for vintage vehicles, wants around 250 to recore and fix my old one. The shop in Paso that makes new cores and fixes up the tanks wants about 350- If I wanted an exact replica of the old one built completely new it was even more. A lot of money for a little bitty radiator. We don't have a good radiator shop here any more, at one time we did.
  8. 4mula-dlx did you find a source for the defroster hose? I had one located and now can't remember what the company was named.
  9. I think I have been working on this heater for nearly 5 years-it was the first thing I took out of Dolly when I started working on her! I am getting close to having it completed. I found a new 6V heater motor. It is a bit smaller in diameter than the original, if you look close at the photos I made some shims and it seems to work well. I fired it up this weekend and it runs well, the rheostat switch works well too. The only issue is the fan blades got out of alignment so it vibrates a bit. I might have bent them when I took off the fan. I hope I can get it a bit smoother. I found two companies to work on the heater radiator, one is on the east coast and they fix the old one. I found a guy in CA that completely makes a new one following the old design. He is expensive (almost twice as much as the other guy) but might be the better route. The heater case had a lot of rust on the inside and it took a lot to clean it. I use my little sand blaster and glass beads. Plus lots of elbow grease. I can't believe I am this close. An exciting side note to the heater work this weekend is I think I found my electrical problem. As some of you might remember I have been having trouble getting the truck to charge correctly, turning on headlights caused the truck to stop charging, and intermittently it would stop charging. When I hooked up the heater this weekend I used the screw I have as a ground for the voltmeter gauge I installed in the truck as a ground for the heater. The heater was working fine, then the heater stopped running and I noticed the truck wasn't charging, and the volt meter dropped to below 6, I took one of my wires from the ground screw for the volt meter to the frame and the truck started charging and the volt meter read above 6 volts. I checked the screw and it was quite loose, so I cleaned it, tightened it and all seems well, the heater worked, the truck was charging, the voltmeter was reading correctly, I can turn the lights on and off and the charging works correctly. I hope that little ground issue was the problem.
  10. Next year for the 10th annual ole Dolly Dodge and I will make it. I so wanted to come over the years, but couldn't. I'm going to start saving now. I will rent a trailer to bring her over. I would have a lot of mad people if I drove over the passes at 45
  11. A friend of mine on facebook noted about the picture of Dolly and her Hub caps "You know girls like us like our sparkly things"
  12. Photos of Dolly with her new hubcaps thanks to Reg. Doesn't Dolly look spiffy and proud? So very cool. Thanks again Reg.
  13. Hi: Here is a link to the latest Dolly Dodge video. I will warn you it is long https://youtu.be/HmZN4XKaTp0
  14. Pflaming. wish I could make the run with you. One of these years I will make it over
  15. Thanks again Reg, those hubcaps look gorgeous. The last set I had on her someone stoll them sometime during the 30 years she satnot running. Amazing more stuff wasn't stripped off her during that time.
  16. Reg: That is a most gracious offer and Dolly is excited about having a set of hub caps. Send them to Rob Pearce 5028 Highway 6 Bishop, CA 93514 I can't tell express well how much that donation means to me. It always bugs me looking at the wheels with no hubcaps. They were on my list of things I needed to get. Thanks again.
  17. Attached are photos from Dolly Dodge's participation in the Inyo County Sesquicentennial Celebration in Independence CA. Dolly belonged to my grandfather A. A. Brierly, who worked for Inyo County from 1905-1970, 65 years. I was a featured speaker at the celebration. Dolly hadn't been home to Independence in nearly 40 years. The picture of her parked by some trees with a house in the background was by my grandfather's house where Dolly spent her youth. The others are in front of the Inyo Court House, and on the road home to Bishop.
  18. I got the product from Clesters and it works great.
  19. Well Darn, Roberts said the didn't carry it but I didn't talk to Gary it was a woman's voice.
  20. I just called Roberts and they don't have it. Looks like Clesters may have it. I left a message there.
