  1. Don, your link sounds like what the machine shop is telling me to do with his pressure pot. Pre lubing is what he called it. He said he primed the oil pump and all parts but says the pre lube is really important.
  2. He says the pressure pot (I think that is what he called it) screws into one of the oil pressure ports on the block. I haven't seen it yet, he told me to come get it when I was ready to start the engine and if I wanted he would come help me with the start up. Like I said it is all new to me too.
  3. Jeff, the machine shop is loaning me a system presurrizer, so the engine have oil pressure ( or so he tells me, it is all new to me) when I go to start it.
  4. Thanks Jeff, I am keeping my fingers crossed regarding the tart up. mI hope she fires up with no issues, leaks, etc. probably wisheful thinking. Zbut I have been very careful putting her back together.
  5. Dooly Dodge is ready to go, exceot the distributor which is enroute from Vintage Piwer Wagon. Goal is to start her next Saturday!
  6. PS, I thought you all might like to see a photo of Marv, they guy who did the rebuild-very slowly did the rebuilt, but did a nice job Also you can see my custom engine stand I made (It was very nice, including stained finish ) so the old engine would have a safe ride home.
  7. The latest. The engine is ready to go, except the distributor which is at VPW for a rebuild, putting on the generator harness, and installing the radiator. I will see how she runs before reinstalling the transmission, clutch, clip, etc. The motor is all rewired and ready to go, It looks gorgeous. I was pleased how easy it went back together. When I took it a part I cataloged each piece in order that it came off, and put each piece in a plastic baggie. I am so glad I did that, for in the three years it took to get the engine back I would have had a terrible time trying to remember how it all went back together. I can't wait to hear it purr!
  8. That is what I thought but it turned out not to be the case. I couldnt't stand it so I hooked the battery up and checked the polarity on the ammeter. I hooked it up as JB suggested above. I turned on the dome light and the wipers ( only thing cnnnected now) and the ammeter discharged. Not sure what the "I" is for. Anyway the wiper worked great and the dome light was bright!
  9. Thanks, I understand about switching , I was trying to hook it all up correctly the first time . My amp gauge has an "I" on the discharge side on the cardboard.
  10. Could anyone tell me on the original amp gauge which terminal is negative and whichis positive? Is the terminal under the negative side if the guage + or -
  11. Hi all: Which is the positive terminal and which is the negative terminal on the ammeter. Seems I forgottowrite thatdown durning my disaasembly. Is t here a way to check that the polarization is corrct withou being cannected to the battery?
  12. Starter went on easy, Floor boards are off so it easy to get to that bolt. Every things is on but the oil filter
  13. Here is a link to putting the engine back in.
  14. Dolly Dodge is a happy girl today, her engine is finally back in place! I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to happen, 3 years to th date that I took it out.
  15. Well my friends, it looks like I get to take my engine home next week. I can't believe it is done. Almost three years to the date since we pulled it.
  16. The flywheel is ready to put back on. It looks gorgeous, all shinny and refinished. One of the problems we ran into when we took the engine apart was someone had arc welded the flywheel nuts to the flywheel, and nuts to the bolts. So the machine shop had great fun getting it off. He got new bolts, and got the flywheel in great shape. Also Attached are photos with the engine enamel coat on. It really is stunning. The other fun thing that happened was he convinced me to get the distributor rebuilt, which was a good idea. He opened the box the other day that came from the distributor rebuild shop and it had a jeep distributor in it, so he called them and they were glad to hear from him becasue they couldn't figure out who they had sent the jeep one to, mine was still in their shope and is now being rebuilt. If it isn't one thing it is another! But it doesn't matter the end is in sight!!!!!!!
  17. Keven, I haven't visited with David in a lone time, but I see his wife and him driving around the area. We just don't seem to cross pathes in person.
  18. My friends. Dolly Dodge's engine is near completion. Today I am painting it. I got the first coat (POR15) on this morning and this afternoon will put the engine enamel coat on. I can't believe the thing is almost done. All that is left is installing the manifold, flywhell, and bell housing and then I take it home. Been a long three years! The engine really is pretty all painted up. I have two weeks off around Christmas and that is when I plan to get the engine back in the truck and hopefully running with a minimal amout of problems (this is my first engine to remove and reinstall). It is so very exciting to finally be at this point.
  19. I went by the shop today and the engine is nearly ready to paint. He will adjust the valves, take the headers off (they are just sitting on the engine in the picture), I will then paint it. He will put the headers on, distributor, flywheel, distributor, and bell housing and then I will take it home. The plan is to put it back in the truck over my 2 week Christmas Holiday. It looks really nice. I hope I can get it all put back together, and rewired, and running. All the internal engine stuff (oil filter, horns, generator, starter, etc) has been reparied (where needed) and repainted. So the engine area will look like new. I have all new wiring, and rebuilt gauges. It will be 3 years to the date if I actually get it back in the truck over Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed that it all works out.
  20. I am doing the best I can with the situation. Those free with criticism don't know all the details. I feel bad enough as it is, but the engine is almost done, and that is all that matters to me at this point. I can't change the situation. The water pump was rebuilt by VPW, its surface is flat as is the block. I posted the photos of the fix because one member asked me too, I forget who it was. I appreciate all the great help in this forum, and the support from the majority of the people
  21. I stopped by the shop today. He has the head about ready to install. He wanted to show me how he addressed the block. He put a set screw in the front, and a freeze plug on top under the head as a backup.
  22. The machine shop (Marvin) will plug the whole. He has plugged the hole on other flathead engines. He said it isn't hard for him to do. I want to keep the head that was on the old block, so when we got the new block we didn't get the head that came off it. I also wanted to use the old waterpump and thermostat holder, I have tried to keep as much original parts as I could. Marvin said he will fix it so it works like the way it was set up originally. He may be slow, but his work is really nice. I talked to him today, should have the hole plugged an head on early next week.
  23. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why there are the two designs for the block?
