  2. No. I'm really working on an early 50's style. Trying to stay out of the late 50's early 60's. It's hard to because I love that style. Thaks for all the nice words. Tomorrow I'm cutting the templates for the glass. I'll keep you updated. BloodyKnuckles
  3. When you say "easier to accelerate" do you mean off the line has more power? If you do you are out of OD. Try reverse then. BloodyKnuckles
  4. I'll keep checking back to see if you've got it figured out. Good Luck! BloodyKnuckles
  5. The only thing I can think of is your cable is misadjusted and will not allow reverse to be functional. I left my cable in twice when I tried reverse, did not work. I'm not sure what else to tell you but someone here should be able to. BloodyKnuckles
  6. Is there a definate engagement felt when you go through the gears then into reverse? BloodyKnuckles
  7. Make sure your cable is pulled out of OD. BloodyKnuckles
  8. Well we are in the final stages of completion so I figured I would start new interest in another thread. You can check out the original thread here... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...bloodyknuckles Here is where we're at at the present time.. Mike, aka...BigO, is doing a fantastic job. It's taken him a bit longer because I made him take my car in his new shop before he was ready to do it. It has been well worth the wait. Public thanks to BigO for the great job and patience with my anticipation. Keep it up! The BBQ is coming up real soon!! BloodyKnuckles
  9. I say absolutely! The only thing to consider is the drums need to be "hub centric". they need to be machined true to the hub. Just the lug studs won't center them. I will be doing this to both my Plymouth and DeSoto. I will reuse the stock hub and drum and may machine a ring to make up the difference the drum has to the hub. Good luck. BloodyKnuckles
  10. I think your price isn't too bad. What I did was went into NAPA and told them I will be spending alot of money in here because I am restoring my vintage car and they have given me what I call "the friends and family" discount. It is well worth asking. They have saved me hundreds, if not into the thousands throughout the past four years and 6 cars. I just replaced everything for my wife's '54 DeSoto, 3 brake hoses, all 6 cylinders, a case of brake cleaner, 2 quarts of brake fluid, 3 60" hard lines, 2 dust caps for the front spindles, a set of wiper blades, all for $423. Just the cyliders and hoses regular price was $490. Ask and you may recieve! BloodyKnuckles
  11. Weatherstrip Special. They are a HAMB Alliance vendor. Great company. BloodyKnuckles
  12. How about a set of '54 Buick headlight trim rings with the intergrated signal lens? BloodyKnuckles
  13. I actually purchased my trannsmision and floating engine mounts from ebay at a fraction of what Steele offers them. I live about an hour from Steele and it was significantly (like a couple hundred less) cheaper to order all of my weatherstipping and window felts from a company out of California, why? I don't know! I asked them if they would discount if I opened an account with them being as I have 5 cars that all have items that need replaced, they said "nope"! Oh well their loss. As for installing the transmission mounts, it was quite the challenge. It will make a noticeable difference. BloodyKnuckles
  14. You'll be missed here for sure but I'll catch up with you on the HAMB. Good luck on the sale of your '55. BTW...I have an "A" coupe waitin' for attention. BloodyKnuckles
  15. I've never been a big fan of those Olds grills. I have a '52 that's getting the full blown custom treatment and I'm actually keeping my original grill. I have yet to find something that I fell is "it". Good luck in your decision. BloodyKnuckles
  16. Boy could I use a quick get-away. I don't think quick was ever a thought for my car. It is by far the slowest vehicle on the road...just the way I like it:D !! BloodyKnuckles
  17. I found these clear, red plug wires at a local estate auction last week; I think I'm going to replace my cloth wrapped plug wires with these to see if they make any difference. They may look more "period" performance correct for my car. BTW...they cost a whopping...$1.95 BloodyKnuckles
  18. Gentlemen, Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have been driving her car alot and have put on over 400 miles since the repairs. So far no leaks. With everything electrical I have done, it stars better, runs much better and the lights a significantly brighter. I had a friend give me 2 sets of 6v NOS Atlas headlights that are just beautiful. I installed them late last night and they are very bright. Anyone who thinks 6V sucks needs to drive my Plymouth or the DeSoto. I have been very satisfied with the 6v systems in both. With good maintainance and preventitive maintainance they can be very reliable. Thanks again guys, BloodyKnuckles
  19. Thanks for all the responses guys. Don, I don't think it has been drilled and tapped but I do believe the right side may have been enlarged if that's what you are talking about. Both locations are there from the factory. Thanks again guys. BloodyKnuckles
  20. Who knows? Probably some "professional" remedy. It looks like it's not factory. Now that I'm thinking about it, I bet it's a bypass for the damaged section. Now you got me thinking. Thanks. BloodyKnuckles
  21. I really dislike people! Why do people screw over older folks? We purchased our '54 DeSoto from an 86 year old gentleman who was getting re-married to a 68 year old lady. We are the second owner. He wasn't a gearhead but liked his cars. He had all of his work done by "professionals". Well they were more like amateurs. I have found numerous amateur repairs or re-dos. These will not be discussed just yet. I do have to share with you my disgust. While tracking down a significant oil leak I came across this; After a bit of scraping I found this; The hole is about the size of a nickel. The cracks are about 3"s long and go from a hairline crack to an 1/8" gap. The side of the block is bubbled out. After about 4 hours of work from locating the leak source to fooling with the infamous JB Weld this is the final product; Not as pretty as cast but so far no leaks after about 300 miles. I chose the repair because the engine runs entirely too well to remove. Also we were told it is the "original" engine and the car only has 48,000 miles. During the repairs I chose to take care of a bit of cracked wiring casing and terminal cleaning on the starter, relay, regulator and battery. Much better now. In good conscience I could never, ever do someone wrong like these shysters (sp??). I will never get over it. Thanks for taking the time to share in my disappointment. BloodyKnuckles
  22. Norm, do you need a hug too? I'm not shy. BloodyKnuckles
