  1. Tim; Now I am cornfused. Should I submit a picture of my boot?? My profile states somewhere on the road as that is where I will be for the next couple of years. Guess that should be SOTR. Actually I am in MTJSONIM. Or BNACBCTNIM. Not sure what to do. Please advise  I have not checked but are all of your cars in your profile?
  2. Gary; My memory is short. Tell me again the contact information of the trim clip guy?

  5. James; I echo 1just4don on the plug reading issue. How did the removed plugs look?
  6. Norm; Hope the floozies will know what to do with your imtake all plumbed up:D I always thought the best time to use a wolf wistle was when slowing down not speeding up:confused: Least I have hade much better luck that way.
  7. I was wondering the same thing. So I googled it. I will probably spend the rest of the day learning all about it as I got several interesting hits.
  8. Lou; You are once again dead nuts on. I installed a new throw-out bearing in my car when I assembled my engine and transmission. A few hundred miles later I had to remove the transmission for another problem. When I inspected the new throw-out bearing I found it was severly worn as it had UHMW as the mating surface. I inspected my original throw-out bearing and found it had brass. I re-installed it and it is working great after several thousand miles. New parts are not always the way to go.
  9. Gary and freinds are returning to Anna, Illinois this evening and stopped for a good meal here in the Boro. Had a very enjoyable meal and conversation. Good to put another face with a name. I have met many forum participants over the past few years and enjoyed every meeting. Gary dropped off a box of goodies from Tim Adams (thanks Tim) and showed me some of the goodies he snagged at the big southern Georgia swap meet.
  10. At that speed Chet you could be in Tulsa in no time. When I heard your engine run it sounded very strong. Congrats on the virgin drive. Car looks even better out in the sunlight.
  11. I was born a Hoosier.
  12. Frank; Although I did not do a belly up under car inspection on James car I did do a close under hood inspection. James has dotted the T's and crossed the I's:rolleyes: Everything is bundled up good and there is nothing "rubbing" under the hood. He has no water pump fan on his engine but has installed an electric pusher fan in front of the radiator. His electric fan is butted up close to the radiator and silently works well unlike my noisy electric pusher fan that works well but is noisy. I do not believe there is anything rubbing on exposed rotating parts on the under hood top side of his car. I observed a strange vibration when his car is stopped and the (fluid drive) clutch is "out" such as when stopped at a stoplight. Pushing the clutch pedal to the floor stops this vibration OR accelerating to anything above engine idle speed (after the light turns green) with the clutch out also stops this vibration. James also commented several times of a problem with the clutch pedal requiring under toe assistance to return to the fully "out" position and this problem seemed to worsen. James, using good sound logic, believes this noise that I (we) heard is an internal bearing in the fluid coupling. I am not as convinced as he is that an internal bearing is the problem but I cannot come up with a better answer. I believe his current problem is related to the problem I observed. He has a freshly rebuilt fluid coupling. I suggest that this fresh coupling be installed and the faulty over center spring adjustments be corrected to see what that does
  13. Bit of snow on the ground both yesterday morning and today here in the Boro. The road looks wet not white so driving should not be a problem. Tim did Gary arrive safely? I look forward to giving him a ride in my Plymouth tomorrow if the weather permits.
  14. Rodney; I did not know you could read:D I thought you just looked at the pictures. Glad you once again got inspired.
  15. They were there the last time I was there.
  16. James; Guess I was a weekend or two short of helping to fix your problems. I regret not getting on the ground and having a first hand look under your car. Will do so next trip. Here is my take. First off install your new fluid coupling this weekend. If your diagnosis was and is correct your low end vibration will cease once this is done. I dont completely agree with your diagnosis on that problem but I do not have a better answer at this time. And this new noisy problem sounds related to your current problem. However the instillation of the new parts will prove the point so go for it. Next fix the clutch overcenter spring problem. All of your problems may be related to this overcenter spring adjustment. I know this is a lot of work but once corrected you are done with it. Your engine sounds great and should have no problems pulling an Airstream across the country.
  17. Not sure about car titles in Braska. You might consider going to Nevada for a quickie re-marriage and divorce (can be done in a couple of hours there) where you could re-aquire the titles and possibly more.
  18. You can also use a flangette and bearing as pictured to make a tool for the front spindles. Instructions to do so can be found on the main page supporting this forum.
  19. Thanks Tim; Now I understand your PM. If you can make use of the T-5 rear mount on any of your peojects do so as I will not be using it.
  20. Charles; If you strike out on the first offer give George Asche a call. (814) 354-2621. Tell him I said to call.
  21. Tim; Stick it on the shelf and I will pick it up on my next visit.
  22. Ed; It is a Caddy. Most likely a 1946
  23. Here is a pair of user frendly items for those of us who do not like fuzzy dice.
  24. Dave; Thanks for sharing your well written thoughts. Installing a PCV system is on my to-do list. I am fortunate that my Desoto engine has factory provisions for a full flow oil filtering system. The valve lubricating system has a provision that you did not mention. The piston rods have a small hole above the crankshaft bearing journal that points towards the valves when installed correctly. This hole is designed to squirt oil under pressure on the lower portion of the valves and valve guides as seen in the attached pictures.
