  1. thanks! ...but he doesn't ship to europe. one of these days...
  2. marty: yes, i think so, too. maybe most of the really low cars out there have swapped rear ends, perhaps i'll have new rear springs fabricated next year. it's not that expensive... but thanks for the adress anyway! andy: guess your're right there, i'll just check out how low i really want to go by disconnecting the springs from the frame and lower the car with a jack, checking axle housing and exaust clearance. i'll post pictures! thanks, all of you!
  3. yeah, suppose i could do that, but i have to consider the shipping costs. when i have to tinker a kit after having exepensive stuff sent over from the states, it wouldn't make sense any more. guess i'll have them built here, if i don't find a complete quality set.
  4. looks like a great weekend! i love the coupe, those noble colors... makes you want to wear white gloves:)
  5. would you also grease them up? sorry for hijacking, aero, just have the same problem, only mine are wrapped in aluminium you can't get off (without destroying it)
  6. "No chrome under my hood." love it! great engine, don!
  7. ok, thanks! wow, i didn't know they were that narrow... scary...
  8. i love this, nice and clean! where did you get the headers, they're looking great. does everything work with your fuel pump this way or do you install heat shields? thanks for sharing! fred
  9. hi, i got a message from night prowler gary (the above adress can't be used to contact him, you have to use his company's adress) and he told me they'd stock blocks 1 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" high, which i could stack onto each other to reach 3". besides that i don't wont to do so and prefer one solid block, i was a little confused about the exact with of our rear springs. i cannot really measure on my car, because they are wrapped in some kind of aluminium sheet metal now i always thought we'd have 2" and the bigger cars (desoto & chrysler) have 2 1/2", or did i dream that? so these blocks would be TOO narrow for me? did they change that after the war? mine's a P-10, maybe they're even narrower? but i am sure one of you knows thanks, fred p.s. speedway do not stock them either, and mooneyes won't answer me.
  10. i will, tim, thank you! the thread turns deeper inside the cast carb housing are still intakt, i managed tightening the connector and it feels fair enough. now when my new pump arrives i can give the whole thing a try and if it still leaks then i'll come along whining and begging for spare parts:rolleyes: i'll keep using thrad sealant and vinyl tape, so let's see...
  11. you're right, jim, that's exactly where i think the leak is. as you can see on the photo, the previous owner tried to use a brass washer to seal the carb. the problem with that is that you only have a few thread turns left to take all the force. and what happens if you do that a cast aluminium thread a couple of times? it's shot... now that's the problem i have to deal with first:rolleyes: afterwards, i'll try as you said, hope that works. thanks!
  12. yeah, i guess so. i'll keep you updated when the new pump arrives, changing is a matter of 10 min.
  13. oh, ok, thanks! you never stop learning! there are cuts on the high points, i can see it on my screen. strange, i alsways thought everything on the car would be in inches...
  14. this is all american made, should be inches all together. what do you mean "cuts on the high point of the nuts"? sorry, my english fails...
  15. hehehe, "alibaba.com":D these are copies, the stated bosch and pierburg numbers are an "equals that model" information. mine says "made in germany". broke anyway, so you see what its worth. like my new front shocks from andy bernbaum's, made in mexico. we'll see.
  16. hmm, pierburg is a german brand, that's why i chose it in the first place. they're available and said to be of good quality. maybe mine was assembled on a monday:rolleyes: it's a sliding vane or vane type pump, so i don't need a metering block or a run back line.
  17. it's brandnew, i installed it about 3 weeks ago and it just sat there. had fuel in it, though, so it wasn't dry. ran fine for about 5mins in total... it has a + and a - pole and i just connected pos on pos and neg on neg. the other way around the pump was spinning in the wrong direction.
  18. you're right, scary stuff... this thread is how old now, 3, 4 weeks? anyway, guess who died on me on sunday? right, my new pierburg elctrical pump! i fixed the front brakes and wanted to take the car for a test run. switched on the ignition, pulled the switch for the pump and wanted to start when i noticed that there wasn't any noise from down there. checked the wiring and ground, still nothing. checked the pump and tried with direct wiring from the battery: still dead. i took the pump out of there and double checked: definitely dead. the coil is ok and didn't burn, but the damn thing won't move. now i'm wondering, does this have anything to do with positive ground? can't be... or can it? starting to get frustrated here, fall's arrived and i'm still not on the road yet.
  19. i have massive problems getting my glass bowl dry. at the moment i'm running the engine without it, because i could not stop the leaking. i think the problem is not the gasket between the glass and metal, and if so, you can easily fix that by turning the glass a little in a circular motion and retighten it a few times, that usually does the trick. the problem (at least on my engine) is, that the connectors have to be tightend real hard in order to get them dry, just like brake linings. i always end up with the filter in a slightly turned position. i also tried all kinds of tapes and additional gaskets. i won't give up though, because they look fine inside there and must have worked back in the days. any idea where to buy a new set of connectors and fuel tubing? one of the other freds:)
  20. i don't like it either, but i agree on the clean job. skillful but tasteless.
  21. already destroyed one of those:mad: i'm happy i didn't damage the fender or hurt myself...
  22. i did, but most people on the bay don't want to ship stuff abroad. won't even let you bid on it... especially with heavy stuff like this puller. they didn't use these here, or so it seems. you don't see them around too often, in fact i only saw one and that was too expensive. well, well. i'll just have to wait... would have been a good opportunity with my pal over in NC. anyway, thanks guys!
