mattimuss Posted January 11, 2015 Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 Hey All, I was troubleshooting the horns today and found one of the many problems. The wire harness connecting screw to the smaller horn had been broken and drilled, but the drill job was poorly done [see pics]. mattimuss Posted January 11, 2015 Author Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 Hey DJ, The center, where the screw threads in, looks brass/copper and also looks to be insulated from the steel support frame. The re-drill has the screw touching both the brass/copper and the steel. I'm taking a WAG here but won't that ground out the circuit? Any experts know? soth122003 Posted January 11, 2015 Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) You might try insulating your wire mount bracket with a thin rubber strip and liquid electrical tape at the mount holes. Not a permanent solution, but it may help isolate your horn problems until you get a new part. DonaldSmith Posted January 11, 2015 Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 If you have a multi-meter, check the resistance between the screw for connecting the wire and the metal body of the horn, say that coppery bracket or a bolt that is not covered with paint. If you get zero resistance, you have a ground condition. You should get some resistance through the horn windings; if not, you have an open circuit somewhere. BobT-47P15 Posted January 12, 2015 Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 Is that bolt too long for the application..........would a shorter one keep it from hitting other things? Just speculatilng from seeing the pictures. Looks like solder on the inside of the horn.......if so, could that be melted off and re-done more neatly?
