  1. Don, I'm about 1 hr. north east of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills. We're at the 2500' elevation and near the Empire Gold Mine just off hwy 49 in Grass Valley. Next time then.
  2. Thanks Bob, "Pearl" has already arrived. The seller drove 1900 miles towing an enclosed trailer. He left last Thursday morning and arrived her Saturday morning at around 10. Amazing ! I named the car Pearl in honor of the lady that bought the car new in 1940 in Oshkosh by gosh. The car came with a copy of the original bill of sale. I was able to do a little detective work and spoke with Pearls 80 year old daughter yesterday. She and her son are going to send me all the original paperwork and any photos they can find. The car really does only have 34,900 miles on it. I have always wished I had the history on my old cars and on this one my wish came true. Come on up anytime Bob. Bartender......a free round of Vaakah all around !!!!! Here's to PEARL. Here's pearl at her new home.
  3. How about this clock mirror in my '35 Dodge.
  4. Just my personal preference but I would rather have an original with maybe a few bolt on enhancements. To each his own.
  5. Success !!!! Yesterday I googled the name on a copy of an old bill of sale that came with the car dated 8/71. Two identical names with different phone numbers came up in Oshkosh,WI. I called the 1st number and an elderly woman(80 yrs) answered. I introduced myself and asked about the car. It turns out her parents bought the car new in Oshkosh and she remembers being allowed to drive it a little as a teenager. When I asked if she thought the car could really only have 35,000 miles on it She said "Oh yes, her parents put the car up on blocks during WW2 and after that only drove the car on weekends and short trips visiting relatives." She is going to wright me a little story about the car. She then told me I should talk to her son because he owned the car from the mid 70's until now. She gave me his phone number and said it was OK to call him. I did and he verified everything she had told me. He's going to send me all the original sales receipts and is going to make me copies of the old photos he has of the car. YAHOO !
  6. Boy Howdi Tim. I think so too. I just got off the phone with Pearl's grandson who owned it from 1971 until a year ago. He's gonna send me the originals to replace the copies I have now of the sales agreement and stuff. Man...the radio was a $53.00 add on to the $881 price of the car. Guess I won't be chopping the top on this one.
  7. I was given copies of the original sales receipt with the buyers names and also a transfer of title where Pearl ( the owner) gave the car to her daughter ( Adeline) and her husband. I googled her name and address and there she was. I called the number and she answered and told me all about the car. She said the car was rarely driven. Mostly on weekends and was up on block during WW2. The daughter is 80 yrs old now and has agreed to wright me a little story about what she remembers about the car. She's gonna look for photos too. I also called the number on the service sticker and J & R are still in business and family owned for over 30 years. The lady there is gonna see what she can did up. Is this great or what!!!!! The car will of course be named Pearl in honor of the original owner.
  8. Anyone ever tried to verify the mileage on an old car. I'd like to try and document the mileage on this 40 Plymouth. How is it done? The service tag looks like 9-3-78 to me with 600 miles less than is showing on the odometer now.
  9. Glad I was able to help. I'm also looking for a 9' box for my 40 COE project.
  10. That would sure make it easier to bleed the brakes with the extra fluid too. Can one be had with the small reservoir cap on the master cylinder?
  11. Thanks Bob, Now I can go see if the 40 Plym still has the correct carb on it.
  12. That was amazing Sheldon. It felt like I was there in the cockpit. Great video !!! Thanks
  13. Uh....well......um......let's see......oh.......I'll have to get back to ya on that Ed.
  14. Anthony, I did what ya said and didn't have any luck finding the guy from Oklahoma with the old ass american cars. I NEED a UTE !!!!! help.
  15. Correction. I guess it has a 201 c.i. engine ,not a 218,and I was wondering if the 2 bbl's would be too much for the engine.
  16. The paint isn't as good as it appears in the photo but I do want to preserve what's there so I'll be using some old sleeping bags I have saved just for this purpose. I won't be using the 1 to 2 adaptor. I was thinking of using the stock 56 2 bbl manifold in the photo.
  17. Thanks Norm and Bob. I do have the service manual for the 46-52 Plymouth models but not for the 40. Looks like the specs are about the same. I'll have to warm her up and check the compression. I'm going to have to remove the manifolds because the gasket between the intake and exhaust is blown out. Terrible noise ! It does have a new exhaust system from the manifold back to the tailpipe though. I wonder. Would it be too much for this lil 218 to install my 56 Plym.two barrel manifold ? Would it wake the engine up any?
  18. I don't want to stir up any trouble here but what about detergent vs. non-detergent oil in an old engine?
  19. The eBay 40 Plymouth arrived yesterday from IL. It's a very original car and still has the P10 engine in it. I am very pleased ! It has lots of little bugs to be ironed out so I thought I'd start with a tune up. Does anyone have the tune up specs handy. unless it's a fake this car has only been drivin about 500 miles since 1978 according to a service sticker on the door jamb. Where would I find the specs on this engine? Thanks, Reg PS...Don if you are still on the road and heading north from Fresno stop by my place.
  20. I look forward to hearing what you find out. Thanks.
  21. Looks good Bob ! I'll have to get one and give it a try. I had one about 30 years ago but it's mia now.
  22. That one looks like this one. These came from the cars of the same era.
  23. Silver. Ignore the orange stuff. Should be black.
