Johnny S Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Well, it was a great day in Colorado and "Aunt Margaret" stretched her legs a bit. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law (wifes sister) were visiting so we all spent the better part of the day cruising her in and around the foothills west of Fort Collins. And no ..... I'm not calling a tow truck in the photo. I happen to be talking to my daughter who is calling from her new apartment. I'm explaining what she needs to do to kill the bugs in the basement. I told her she needed a big hammer and lots of patience .... its the organic method you know! I think all together we put about 65 miles on the old girl today without a glitch. She needs more exercise like that I suspect. Even got a few "nice car" comments which are always appreciated. Quote

Frank Elder Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 I had a 49 2-dr sedan and a 4-dr model sedan, and both of them had problems with d-side hood hinges. You would go to close the hood and the hinge would stay up and if you did'nt catch it quick enuff, bad things happened! Only hurt the hood a little, 1 creased corner, never to be a good aligned panel again. Have you ever had this misfortune? The fall back is, is that both were solid dependable cars I would drive them any time any place ! I just wish they were as sweet as your aunt Margaret! FRANKIE Quote
Johnny S Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 Frankie, no problems so far. The door hinges are solid and the alignment is good. Cross my fingers that they stay that way for a long time. Quote
Johnny S Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 thought them 49'ers wound up in California..nice looking club coupe Most of 'em did Tim. They came from all corners of the globe. I just haven't found the right road pointed that way yet. Not sure I would want to drive "Aunt Margaret" around out there much anywho. She's not real "fast" if you know what I mean! I was able to get her up to about 55 mph today and she's startin' to work hard by then. I think 75 would kill her pretty quickly with the stock gears and tranny. Quote
eric wissing Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Nice looking car. I like that color. I think it was one of the more common colors when new but don't see it now. Eric Quote
Johnny S Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 Salvador Blue. It's sort of growing on me. I'm partial to black and darker blue and some of the greens and even various colors of red (like my first '49) but this lighter blue just jumps out at you as 40's vintage car and that's the way I want her to be viewed....a nice old 40's car.
