Does anyone know if Plymouth used the same convertible frame in the early forties as in the late forties? May expand my search for a frame for my 47.

Thanks

My guess is yes.

Certainly the 42 models will be the same, probably earlier ones as well.

I'd suggest you call Bill Hirsch and ask him whether the patterns he holds for the tops for the earlier models are the same as for the P15.

I got my top from him, ready stitched.

I've always found him to be very helpful.

He's at www.hirschauto.com

Good luck.

Are there any of the older model converts around your area to measure

the bows? Also would be good to take pics of their position, etc.

At some point, I could probably measure my bows and take a pic on my

47.

Claybill.....do you have any pics or measurements???

There is a guy here who has the remains of a 51 (i think) convert that

has the bows. Don't know if it's close enough to be able to use at

least some part of them.

From parts manual......

my 41 and my former 46 had a top frame that looked exactly like the one in picture/manual.

also; i always assumed that the front header beam was wood...it felt like ti..but it is not! it is shaped metal. the connecting rod system goes inside it, that hooks on to the clamps on top of the windshield.....

Thanks Bob for the pics. I do have the vacuum cylinders. The guy I bought the car from has a restored car I can get patterns from and fabricate , however I'm missing the header also, which would be very difficult to fab. So in the meantime I'm on the hunt. I am interested in the 51 parts, they may work with some modifications. Thanks

By the way, I'm also hunting for the windshield wiper pivot assemblies, convertible specific.

Boy, those pivots are seemingly pretty scarce. I look for them all the time

and have had no luck. I have the originals, but one it pitted and would

like to find a better one to replace it. I think they used them on the wagons

also, but not sure.

They look like this.

Bob, the woodie wagons used the convertible cowel. They even have the top latch fittings above the windshield behind the wood trim boards. They used the same windshield wiper stands and they are pretty rare.

Interesting, Jim.

Wagons use convertible cowl.

Convertibles use convertible cowl.

But converts use business coupe rear end including trunk lid.

Always something to be learned.
