bigred48 Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 How do you take of emblems on the front fenders, for a special deluxe 48 plymouth, I'm just not sure how exactly the fastners work and I don't want to break the emblem. Thanks for the help:) Andy Quote
steveplym Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 I assume you mean the special deluxe emblems right below the hood on the back of the fender? If so there are three studs that go thru the fender on the emblem. Attaching those studs to the fender are 3 flat washers, they are somewhat curved or springy, and hold the emblem on. I got them off with a long flat screwdriver, small one too. I'll post a pic in a minute as mine are off for the repaint. Let me get to the garage real quick. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Use extreme care here...the clips are spring steel and are clinch method of fasteneing...I just today removed three of these clips..I recommend that you carefull use a dental pick or nice pen-knife tip and go between the post of the emblem and side of the clip where it bites into the post..lift this clip ear up and away from the post.will not take much...this will allow it to slide off the post..if not extremely rusted or lifted to high to allow it to break the somewhat brittle steel, flattening them will allow reuse of the clip.. steveplym Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Here's a few pics. Are there any replacements available for these? Mine are kind of rusty, can be used again though. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Are those what they call "speed nuts" or just spring clips? Quote
bigred48 Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Posted July 14, 2008 thanks for the help. I removed all my other trim pieces today, but was worried about breaking those. I will have to give it a shot some time this week. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 speed nut is similar but the ears are staggered and set to match the inclined plane of a sheetmetal screw..these push on clips are equally offset and directly oppose each other. Quote
martybose Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Are those what they call "speed nuts" or just spring clips? I'm pretty sure that the proper name is Tinnerman nuts. Marty Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 You just have to hide them from the Tinnerman squirrels. Quote
randroid Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Gents, Better yet, don't go to Tinnerman Square. I hear people get shot there. -Randy Quote

Hi if I can share a tip! I also collect lionel trains and they use these clips all the time .. all you do is use a needle nose and back them off like you would a nut! then when u install instead of pushing ...turn them on ... It really works!! good luck .. Quote
