aero3113 Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Anyone run with a six bladed fan?Any benifit? If so, what would work on a 1950 Plymouth 218.Thanks,Keith. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Here's a 54 Plymouth engine I found the other day.....has a 6 blade fan on it. The engine was last used in a 40 or 41 Plym, so I don't know if that's the original fan. Looks different than the standard Mopar fan. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I am running a six bladed fan. It was on the engine when I bought the car. The previous owner was having overheating problems. After I bought the car I changed the water distrubtion tube it runs at 180-185, so I not changing anything. Dennis Quote
Young Ed Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I've got one on my spare engine that came out of a 50s pilot house truck. Looks like the one on the 54 engine bob posted. I think they take up the same space as the 4 bladed one so it would fit. Quote
aero3113 Posted July 11, 2008 Author Report Posted July 11, 2008 The one on the 54 looks like it would work just fine.Anyone know where I can get one? Quote
De Soto Frank Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 I bought a 251 Chrysler six ('46-'48) that a friend pulled out of his '39 Chrysler Royal; it has a six-bladed fan on it, with the square "DPCD" logo stamped in the hub... Don't know if the fan originally belonged to the '39 Chrysler or what. My '41 De Soto has the four-blade fan, as did my '47 Windsor. I wouldn't be surprised if the six-blade unit was for truck applications ? De Soto Frank Quote
Captain Neon Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 My father stuck a 6-blade fan on his '47 Ford many years ago to help alleviate his overheating problem. I don't know how much, if any, benefit he got from it. At the very least, it didn't hurt any thing. Quote
bob_amos Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 Both my 53 and 54 came with 6 bladed fans. Works great and moves lots of air. Which is exactly what is needed. They should be pleantiful and should not cost much since they became standard in 53. Give one a try and see for yourself. Quote

Bob...I went on Ebay and I didn't see any "pleantiful" fans that you were talking about. Do you have any extra or know of where some are? I'd really hate to have to put an electric fan on it, but what ever works to keep the engine cool...especially at idling stops. I guess I need to know what 6-blade fans will fit on the D-30 (1949 Dodge) engine. Quote
bob_amos Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 After 53 Chrysler 6 cylinders generally used 6 bladed fans. Don't limit your search to the Bay. Try some salvage yards. I know that they are out there. I've purchased them easily enough for some of my customers over the years. I also just sold a 54 wagon and mine was bent so I purchased one from one of my customers that had on siting in his garage. No..I don't have to old one, I trashed it as that is what it was. Don't misunderstand me.... it may take more than an hour to locate one but they are out there. Quote
