I was talking to a friend - he's working on a 35 Dodge. I showed him the fender welting on my Plymouth which is chrome. He asked if anyone does the welting in color (brown)? All I know is chrome and black.

Any hints or suggestions?

Thanks

While I'm at it I'm looking for the stuff (don't know the name) that goes across the front of the engine compartment that the hood closes on. I'm not sure if it's rubber or felt and I'm not sure where to get it. I don't think I saw it in the Steele catalog.

Thank you for your help :)

I dont know if there is any available because havent looked but know it can be made very easily. Have seen it done several times at buddies shop. Just a matter of picking out which material you want to use. Cut the width and fold over the plastic bead you get for doing your seat edges, etc. Sew it togather close to the bead tightly. Then make your cuts on the material like teeth so that you wont get any folds and the bead will bend around easily.

Another way is have an upholsterer do it but it can be done in any color you choose.

This is why ford a models and some t's where so attactive. The Ford company always had a good selection of welting I have the medium brown on my Plymouth, it makes everything come together. It's darker than the paint so it shows up nice. It's strange:mad: as I ove chrome anything I never thought of chrome welt:o I guess I missed out.

You guys are the greatest - but you probably already knew that.

What a great forum. I wonder if the Cord people are this cool.

Way off topic: I used to have a Packard Clipper. I was in the Packard club and found that because the Clipper was the "cheep" model it seemed I didn't get any respect. All the high end guys hung together.

I don't know what made me think of that. I guess I just like the way everyone on this forum is treated the same - no matter how old and cranky. :D

I got the hood and cowl lacing from Roberts. It was black but looks good. Couldn't find those weird nails they used so I went to True Value and showed the guy the size and he found some nice phillips screws that worked really nice. I was happy the way it turned out. Wayne P.
