dirty dan Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/prod011.htmWherever a 6 volt battery is now used, you can convert the starting power to 12 volts. Overcomes hard starting problems. Requires no change in electrical system. Complete installation instructions included. Gives 12 volt starting power to older engineered 6 volt starting and charging circuits without rewiring. We have this battery in a group 22(9x6.75x11), group 24(10.25x6.75x11), group 27(12x6.75x11), and group 3E(19x4.5x11) case. Does anyone have any experience with this battery? Quote
martybose Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 It's just a 12V battery split into two banks with a series/parallel switch. It is in parallel normally, but switches to series when you hit the starter button. I had one in an old 6V Volvo that I put a later 12V motor into a LONG time ago. Marty Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 I haven't seen one of those for a long time. We had one in a 54 Pontiac and it worked perfectly. There was a solenoid on top of it that changed the cell connections from parallel to series only for starting. Very neat gadget. Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 How much do they cost? I might want to try one if the shipping isn't a deal killer. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Could that work for a pedal operated starter? Quote
claybill Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 jb job.....i had that pedal starter on both my 41's...it was an easy switch to a pishbutton. actually you cxan leave all the original equip there..just change wires. what a relief too.! you need a button and a solenoid. bill Quote
