Young Ed Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Hey guys I know there are a few of you in here who are veteran ebay sellers. I have 3 auctions that ended yesterday for about $500 total. Now the issue is even though the auctions said us only 2 went to a bidder in russia and the third the netherlands. Is it safe to send to these places? I don't want the items to get sent and never arrive and be out the money. What else can i do? The netherlands guy did say he has a relative here in the US I can ship to if I won't ship directly to him. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Ed, If you said "US bidders only" or you will only ship to the US, then you can simply send those people in Russia or elsewhere that you will not ship or sell the item to them. Then you can offer the next highest bidder a second chance offer, or simply relist the item. You don't have to sell the item to those who bid outside the US. Quote
oldmopar Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 1st you do not ship anything until you get paid so you should never be out the money. 2nd tell the buyer if he does not take insurance the loss is his problem same for damage. I only ship to us I have done some international items but most of the time they do not want to pay the shipping cost so now I do as Norm said and block out of us buyers. Ed Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Ebay allows you to block bidders from countries you don't want to deal with. We say right up front that we will only ship to USA addresses. On several occasions, foreign bidders have written to ask if we will let them bid, and offer a US address for shipping. If their feedback looks good, we unblock them. No problems so far. Shipping out of the country can be an expensive hassle (although Canada is okay)....that's why we won't do it. Beware of foreigners wanting your bank account information for a wire transfer, a common ploy to phish for info. I don't know how safe shipping is to Russia, so I would decline the Russian bidder like Norm said. Hope this helps. Harold Quote
Young Ed Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 When I filled out the auction I only selected the US for ships to. Is there another step to actually block bidders from other places? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 There's a 'bidder restrictions' (or wording to that effect) section towards the bottom of the item listing form. The default value is blank (no restrictions), and if you hit the word 'change' it gives you options on who to block. We block bidders with a feedback of '-1' or less, bidders with 2 or more unpaid item strikes, and non-US bidders. Harold Quote
RHDSP15C Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 As an overseas buyer I don't understand this attitude. I've found quite a few auctions that won't ship outside the US, in every case it's been to my advantage as I have fund a better deal later. I know taking stuff to the Post Office is a pain but that's what you have to do to get the money. Quote
fireman_033 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Not everybody overseas is dishonest but there a lot of scams out there to get your money and your item. Its just a lot less of a hasle not to have to deal with it for some folks than it is to make sure all is good and ship items. Some folks just aint right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! theres one in every bunch!!!!!!!!! Well almost every. Scott Quote
Young Ed Posted April 1, 2008 Author Report Posted April 1, 2008 Ya I already lost $75 and a jeep center console once. Don't care to be burned again. Quote

He bid without asking and then sent an email saying don't worry I do it all the time. Quote
