55 Fargo Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Hi all, I have a spare fuel pump, it is in real nice shape, all cleaned up, but never was rebuilt, so I am not sure if it leaks or not, it seems to have good suction. What do I need to do to get it operational, the glass bowl gasket looks a little rough, probably would leak................Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Fred check with Antique auto cellar for a rebuild kit. I think they were about $30 last time but its been a while since I bought one. Comes with modern rubber parts that will survive todays gas. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 Thanx Ed, just went on the Antique Auto Cellar websiote, the kits are $29.50, it includes all parts, these parts will survive modern fuel...........Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Both my car and truck got one of these kits when I rebuilt them. About 6K miles between the 2 of them with no issues. Quote
oldmopar Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I had looked at the kits but at $30. for a kit and $50. for a pump at my local napa I took the easy route and just bought the pump. The part # M847 I think is for the one with the screen but they gave me the one with the filter bowl with that part # Ed Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I just bought a "rebuilt" fuel pump on ebay for $6.95. No one evidently was very interested.....only bidder was me. Of course, I don't know when it was rebuilt. I may try it on the car and see how it does. If not so good, then spend the $30 for a kit. Not sure if I actually have the correct pump on now, but it seems to work OK. The problem is I have a '57 engine in the '47 car. Sometimes I forget and bid on a '47 part......like the vacuum advance I just bought. However, the seller also had an advance for a '57 model.....so I have purchased it. Not sure how different the two are.....but may later have the first one to sell. Haven't checked to see if the current advance works or not....but thought a spare might be good. Always something to spend my money on...... Quote
Young Ed Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Bob I'm in the market for a 47 advance unit if you have extra Quote
james curl Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 The vacuum advances are not all the same. There are three different distributors. The points on some are mirror imagines of each other and take a different advance, I have three different engines and three different distributors and vacuum advances. All three will work in any one of the three engines. Quote
Guest 57plymouth Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 The 57 fuel pump is different. They are also hard to find. If you need to unload yours, let me know. Quote
