toddbracik Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Just putting the word out. I know there were some threads on gas tanks awhile back. There are a couple up on ebay going for 250.00 + $25.00 shipping. This is the Tanksinc. tank. I am ordering one myself when I get the money. Spoke to the seller over the phone. Nice guy so I thought i would help him out. I've just had problems with tanksinc picking up the phone. 55 Fargo Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 You can buy direct from Tanks.inc for $215.00 plus the $25 for shipping in the states, or you can get the exact same tank made by them in stainless for $325.00, why pay this guy an extra $35.00. The down side of this tank is this, the sender hole is drilled and tapped so that the sender goes toward the back of the tank, but there is no room in this direction, you will need a repop from Roberts, the type you can reverse the Float arm swing. This tank is venbted and baffled, the filler neck is not attached, it goes on with machine screws and a flange with gasket. Quote

55 Fargo Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Todd, they advertise it on their website for $250.00 but they sold me mine 2 months ago for $215, they have specials once in a while. Plus you are buying direct from the supplier, if there is a problem you can deal directly with Tanks..........Fred ps now that you mention it, they quoted me $250, but sold it to me for $215, also this tank is made in Taiwan, but is pretty decent , the one glitch is the sender holes being tapped in the direction they are, but this can be overcome Quote

Thanks. I will try and get ahold of tanks. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Fred am I seeing correctly that not only is there an extra piece that screws onto the tank that could leak but also a second hose connection there too? I think I'm glad I spent a little more to get my factory tank redone. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 This flange is held on by machine screws, I was not overly impressed with this feature, did not know this till I got the tank, there pic does not show thisit has a thick gasket, so hopefully it does not leak, the filler hoses should not be a problem, as there won't be pressure aginst the connections to create leaks...........Fred Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Fred am I seeing correctly that not only is there an extra piece that screws onto the tank that could leak but also a second hose connection there too? I think I'm glad I spent a little more to get my factory tank redone. Ed, my poly tank is set up like Fred's steel tank. You are correct, that is a possible leak area. However, there is a gasket between the flange and tank. I've had my poly tank on for about 8 years now and never had a leak there. Actually, the old 30's Fords are set up about the same way too. On those the pipe just has an 0 ring gasket at the tank for the pipe to fit into. Those last a long time too unless you remove the tank for some reason, then you should replace the 0 ring. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Hi Norm, so I should be okay, the procedure is to use a thin coating of Aviation sealant on both sides of the gasket, snug up the machine screws till the sealant sets-up, then tighten down the screws snuggly, but not real tight. My machine screws also have a little O ring on each screw. Norm is this how you attached your filler neck flange.............Fred Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Fred, Mine is held on with machine screws too and the cork gasket in between. I didn't use any special gasket sealer. Just the brush on sealer, same as I used for the fuel pump. Forgot the name of the sealer but I still have some out in the garage. Actually, any gasket sealer should be fine as long as it's resistant to gasoline. What looks like small little white dots in the picture are machine screw inserts. Just used sealer around the screws and gasket when I installed the filler tube. The two area's on the right in the picture are not used, they are solid like the rest of the tank. The open one is on the lower left of the tank and that's the hole I had to use to mount the filler tube. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Norm, is it Permatex Aviaition sealant, this stuff is brown and syrupy, is sticky as well, it is gasoline resistant.......................Fred Quote
