Vintrader Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 It seems that most B model 1/2 Ton Trucks I have owned or seen have had 16" wheels. While the C Model 3/4 Ton Trucks have had 15" wheels. Is this correct? You would think the larger truck would have larger wheels? Dutch Quote
Young Ed Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 The 39-47 trucks are the same way. 16s stock on 1/2 ton 15s stock on 3/4 tons. However the 3/4 ton 15s have a different bolt pattern. Quote
IanT_Qld Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Is the outside diameter on the 15 and 16 inch wheels the same, I know the 16 inch has a 29inch tyre height. This might have been a cheap way to reduce the gearing to carry the extra load? Quote
Moparmodeler Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 My b3b has 15in wheels, I don't know if they are right or not. I do know dodge used taller tires on the heavier rated trucks, becouse the larger the tire the larger load capacity. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 My 3/4 ton truck has the 15" wheels and I often wondered the same thing you asked. I thought that maybe at the time the 15" tires had a higher load rating than the 16"ers? Quote

Yep sure, those trucks were allround heavier and stronger, but for the extra 250kg (approx) it may have been cheaper to put the smaller tyres to reduced gearing. It wasn't until the 1 tonne that things changed mechanically. PS. this is my assumption and we know what assumptions do - they make an "a#* out u an me.";) (I may well be wrong) Quote
