Guest rockabillybassman
My car died! I ran it to warm it up, then did a compression test (which came out pretty good... 120-125 on all). I put the plugs back in, fired her up, no problem. Then I discovered it would only idle, soon as I tried to get some revs, it would cough and splutter. Then it died. Popped the air filter, heaps of gas. Pulled the HT lead, hmmm, getting a bit of spark but not much, pretty feeble. Put a multi on the coil + and - and getting correct voltage there. Very strange. I guess I'll hafta bite the bullet and buy a new coil, but I really hate buying new stuff when the stuff I'm replacing has only done 100 miles at most. greg g
Check the wire in the distributor. It might be grounding agaist the body. Its the one that connects the points to the terminal. Remember just about any coil will do if you are running 6 V.
Heavy Flat Head
You might want to replace the condenser first, as these can cause a lot of weak to no spark.
builtfercomfort
I've had a clogged fuel filter act like that, too. Remove the air cleaner and see if the accelerator pump is pumping gas.
T120
- also had the same problem with a clogged fuel filter under load
Guest rockabillybassman
Yeah, heaps of gas. Got a new condenser at lunchtime, so will try that tonight.
