BobT-47P15 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 This 1983 Continental Mk 6 can be had pretty cheap. No title or keys. Here in Joplin, It came with the property purchased by some people I know. They offered it to me, but nothing I can use. Otherwise, it will get sold for scrap to a salvage yard. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Looks like a nice car for someone. How hard is it to get a title in situation like this? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 In Georgia..bill of sale only needed as the car is an 83..you could not get a title if you had gold coins... Quote
oldmopar Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Looks like a nice car for someone. How hard is it to get a title in situation like this? Depends where you live here in NJ its hard to get a title here is a link to what you have to file http://oldmopar.com/oldmopar/NJ_Vehicle_Reg_Procedure_with_No_Previous_Title.pdf BobT you may want to look under the car and see if it has a catalytic convertor you may want to remove it I see for some reason they are sold on ebay as scrap http://search.ebay.com/cat-conv-scrap_W0QQcatrefZC6QQdfspZ1QQfgtpZQQfmmdZQQfmmkZQQfposZ08535QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQfyhiZQQfyloZQQmppfqyZcatQ2aQ20convQ2aQ20scrapQQsabfmtsZ1QQsadisZ200QQsaprchiZQQsaprcloZQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsatitleZcatQ2aQ20convQ2aQ20scrapQQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs Quote
JerseyHarold Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Wow! My lovely state of New Jersey makes it very complicated to get a title without paperwork. I spoke to a local Tow Company operator a few years ago who made it sound like getting a title (in his case for impounds that were never claimed) was easy as pie. When I lived in New York, I got papers for a few cars that didn't have any with hardly any trouble at all. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Here in Wisconsin you would have to have the serial number checked by the police department. You would also need a bill of sale from the seller and a letter as to where the title went to. Then if the car isn't on the hot list, they will issue a title. How cheap is the car? Maybe the reason the keys were lost is because it doesn't run anyway. When I see what looks like a nice car like this parked, it usually means it doesn't run due to bad engine or transmission, or both. If it was really a good car why didn't the original owner sell it long ago, or at least make sure they had the title and keys in a safe place. It just raises red flags with me. That said, although I'm not into large cars like that, they do ride nice. If it does run, would make someone a nice car. Quote

Last year I was looking at a vehicle had no title we agreed on a price with the stipulation he get the title. After a month or so he gave up. You maybe able to get a salvage title a little easier but that is not the same thing. Not real sure on the salvage title just know its not good to buy a vehicle with one. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 I don't know why the car was parked. Hasn't been licensed for the last 4 or 5 years. Probably mechanical problem. Seats and interior fairly good, needs front carpets. Latch on driver's door would not work right after I opened it.....could not close it securely. Pulled the hood latch, but hood did not pop up.....so that is a minor problem. Not sure what it would take to get a title (used in MO).....probably a bill of sale, then have to be checked out by the Highway Patrol. The seller of the property left tons of junk....most of which was tossed into a big dumpster and hauled off. The best thing they left was a Ford 8N tractor, which the new owners are having repaired. The seller also left behind this nifty home made firewood toter. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I wonder, would the 83 Lincoln contain the fabled 9" Ford rearend? Quote
62rebelP23 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 no;more likely an 8.8, and an economy gear ratio at that. i'd yank the 302 and the AOD and scrap the rest, they're not worth "restoring" and quickly turn into rust boats. and this from your resident Ford Nut.... Quote
