Captain Neon Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Unfortunately, this car is probably over in Saudi Arabia or Dubai by now. One of the downsides of owning a distinctive status vehicle. Old classics and custom rods are rarely chopped because there are too many questions, and you can't just sell these cars as a commodity like one can sell newer cars. I hope Mr. Hampton is fortunate enough to recover his vehicle, and I'm sure he is mad as fire and brimstone. It gives us all reason to pause. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Someone stole the really nice 32 Ford roadster of a HAMBer not long ago from his parking spot in CA. They were on top of it pretty quickly, but no one saw the car up or down the coast. A whole lot of rodders responded to the message, and were on the lookout. Thieves today are pretty brazen. You need to lock down everything. Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 ...had their trailer, quad runners and all hunting equipment including rifles stolen when they stopped in Las Vegas to eat. The scum just pulled up and either detached the trailer from the truck and hitched it to theirs or took the truck as well and abandoned it in the desert. Either way, they were gone in seconds. Watch your vehicle and other property carefully whenever possible!! Quote
Normspeed Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 I padlock my trailer ball to the hitch and use a locking receiver pin when I travel. Hard to outsmart thieves though. That's awful about the phaeton. I didn't catch his actual location Dennis. Is he from the V ville area? Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 A lock only keeps an honest man honest. He is from DOWNEY, CA area. Dennis Dennis, I've always said the same thing about locks. However, my cars are usually locked when parked in my own garage, that is also locked. If a thief wants something you are right, he's going to steal it. However, most thieves want to steal it as fast as they can, so no one sees them. If you have it locked, he'll still get it if he wants it bad enough, but it will slow him down and hopefully someone will then see him. Sometimes that lock will be just enough to discourage him. How many of us have an AC unit sitting outside our house? I guess those get stolen a lot. Back in the 90's during a hot spell I went to visit a friend who owned a small industrial tool & equipment sales & rental shop. He was renting the building in an industrial park. The AC contractor was there installing a new AC unit for the office. Someone had stolen the office AC unit overnight while the thing was still running with 240 volts going to it. Contractor said it happens all the time. So........after that was replaced they put up a 12 foot chain link fence with barbed wire around the top of just the AC unit, with double locks on the gate. So............a thief will steal almost anything if he has access. But, they never got my friends AC unit again. That fence made it take too much time to steal with the fence around it. FYI, the AC contractor said a lot of home owners have them stolen each year too. Lets face it, they are light and most are sitting right out in the open. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 DPST switch..use common center post on one side and interrupt the ignition start wire to the relay..this is voltage for energizing the start relay..connect the start relay wire to one pole and the horn relay to the other pole..when you exit the car flip your hidden switch to anti theft position..should ignition key be turned to start the horn goes off..now if you relly want to do it right take the output of the horn relay back to the center pole of the other side of the switch and take the anti theft poition and return it to the input of the horn relay..that way if they let up on the start the output of the relay has now locked itself to keep the horn blowing till you flip the switch into start mode...cheap..effective and will cause most theives to trun and run very quickly..for cars with an easy to get to horn for disable..hide a horn and relay under the car or deep within a wheel wellor under battery..
