Saskwatch Posted yesterday at 01:27 PM Report Posted yesterday at 01:27 PM I’m reinstalling the clutch over center spring assembly on our Canadian 1948 Dodge Cl. Coupe ( p15 “plodge”) There is a lot of very helpful information to read through from the past forum posts on properly adjusting this spring. I’m going to try and show a photo of this mechanism that was posted by Dodgeb4ya back in December 2021. The bottom loop on my spring is worn through, not worth reinstalling. I’m trying to find one I can replace it with but this is a very heavy duty spring ! I’m wondering why it has to be so heavy if its job is to return the clutch pedal after it has been depressed? Would like to ask what others have used to replace this spring, please ? Also , in the bottom of this photo , you can see the end of a much “lighter” spring that is hooked into a small hole in the frame , where is the other end oriented? …. Possibly brake pedal return spring ? Thank you very much for any help. Quote
kencombs Posted yesterday at 02:57 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:57 PM That spring and linkage is to assist with depressing the clutch, not simply to return the pedal. Without it the pedal would be much harder to depress, release the clutch. 1 Quote
Saskwatch Posted yesterday at 05:20 PM Author Report Posted yesterday at 05:20 PM Thank you for your response, that is helpful in understanding why the spring has to be so heavy …… I was going to try a weaker spring but understand now that won’t work so good . Thanks again 👍 Quote
Happy 46R Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Hi Murray, thanks for the pm. I will check this afternoon as I have to check on the car anyway. Hit -32 Celcius last night so want to make sure the small heater in the garage is running. It wont get the place warm but it will take a bit of the edge off. Dave Quote
