Question on p18 front suspension

Ok question for you folks. Missing too much chrome and other stuff to do the restoration of my 49 p18 so want to do this as a reliable/safe more modern daily driver.

Would the upper control arms for a 73 c10 work on the p18? I have a parts 73 c10 for another truck and am looking at using as much of the suspension from that truck as possible for the 49 as only needed a door and fender for the other truck.

Would this be a possible transfer or would I basically need to take out the whole suspension and have it cut/welded down to fit? Just wanting to use the upper and lower arms if possible.

Thanks

if you good fabricator and determined to NOT FAIL....sure, why not...but in this sense..subframe would be the ideal....a 49 will accept a more modern Dodge frame as one will slide into the other for welding .....but as a fabricator you would know this already......

Mopar front suspensions 1940 to 1956 will essentially swap parts without any real problem but after that you are limited by your ability to modify/change/fabricate..........I have never seen a subframe swap that really impressed me apart from a couple of times when the whole frame from the firewall forward was replaced with box tube & an upgraded aftermarket independant style front end or better yet a XJ6 Jaguar complete front end was installed..........the original front suspension can be made to work well, just takes a little thought..........relocate the upper shock mount, rebuild the stock steering box or replace with a more modern rack & pinion, swap in disc brakes, a thicker sway bar and your done...........you won't outrun the latest Formula 1 car but it will handle I ride well..........my Oz 2cents worth.......andyd

In my other life I probably did know this as I've built frames for model t's before but 4 years ago had a tbi and lost alot of memory. That's why I ask if possible before I try as what I think I remember may not be a real memory.

And thanks I will take a look at a dodge frame. I might be able to get my hands on a dakota.

Thanks Andy I will look again at the front and check out relocating shock mounts this summer. Hopefully I can get my new shop built on the farm by then as the old one is almost 100 years old ans starting to break down lol
