I called an old car junkyard here in Wis., asked them if they had an OD trannsmission. The guy on the phone said yes, out of a 55 plymouth, $300! Called back 5 minutes later to say I'd take it, talked to a different guy who was the 1st guys son. He said his dad was forgetful, and didn't know what he was talking about, they sold it years ago. Anyway, I asked them if they had any other flatheads for parts, and they have a 265 chrysler engine for $250. Looking up the parts, they should be about the same as rebuilding my 230. How much are we talking about for HP difference, would it be worth it? I would probably go with the wilcap adaptor and T5 behind it, and 3.55 rear. Otherwise I would stick with the 230 and same combo. I'm thinking only cost difference would be the initial $250.

what car? if its a p15, its not too much. I took 2 in out of the front cross member, [for the pulley fit, and re drilled the motor mount holes, turned the radiator bracket around .I have not got the front sheet metal on yet. but it was a common practice to do this swap years ago. Don Coatney, did it also with minor fit pronblems ,if I recall correctly. Now. if its a 49 or later you may have some shroud type sheet metal to contend with..I put a 251 in My p15. I believe the power difference is considerable. just driving around the yard very noticeable torque difference.Thats all I have to say about that...Christopher... from the high and snowy lonesome....

Here's a comparison.

53 Chrysler 265 is rated at 119hp at 3600rpm and 218 lbs torque at 1600rpm

53 Dodge 230 is rated at 103 at 3600rpm and 190 lbs of torque at 1200rpm
