PatS.... Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Bored on Friday after some tests, so was cruising our local classified site http://www.usedcalgary.com/ where I came across a brute identical to this one: http://www.usedcalgary.com/classified-ad/4334994&category=stationary-tools I have been looking for an OLD DeWalt for a while and the price was right, so I took the short drive south to Okotoks to pick it up Saturday morning. This tank is HUGE! Weighs about 500 lbs!! Good thing the seller had a fork lift because two of us were barely able to slide it across the floor. Because of the size, I was going to pass but then I thought for $50 bucks, it will do even being big. I found a scan of the original instruction manual which shows how to adjust this brute on Old Woodworking Machines.org. That was the reason I wanted an OLD DeWalt because of the precision of the adjustments and the fact they STAY adjusted...unlike the POS Craftsman I had:mad: I have a buddy with a tow truck coming this AM to lift it off of my pick-up and set it in the garage, so I'm going to buy some heavy duty locking casters for it so I don't get a hernia moving it once it's in the garage. Now I have to find a 14inch blade that I can afford:eek: According to the serial number it is an early 1943 Model GP. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Pat..good deal..I bought an old DeWalt while back at a surplus sale..they had updated the wood shop int he high school and the one I got came from there..found out that the only problem was a bad power cable and lack of attention in keeping it wiped down..it cleaned up to look like it was only slightly used..and like you, stole it for 37.50 (silent bid) also got a 18 inch Craftman band saw (35.00) and a Delta scroll saw (5.00) that day. Last auction had no good deals on power equipment. They had a Bear alignment frame there..don't know what happened to it as it was to be on the next auction..just disappeared..man I wanted that thing.. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Pat; Will that saw work as well as the chainsaw on your car? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 I tell you..that shot should be on the January page of every calander dedicated to the old car industry...EVERY JANUARY... Quote
PatS.... Posted November 18, 2007 Author Report Posted November 18, 2007 Pat;Will that saw work as well as the chainsaw on your car? Well, Don, the saw did come from a metal fabricating shop and it does presently have a metal cutting blade in it, so, if the need arises, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a go!!! I like excitement and I love sparks!!! I don't, however, own a chainsaw and that's one tool that I have enough respect for never to own. Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Pat, that saw that you just bought can do just as much damage to you as a chain saw can do. Chain saws are okay as long as you treat them with the respect that they deserve. Quote
1948Skip Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Pat, Could you clearify the old woodworking machines.org web address. This seems to be a nice site but I was unable to access it. Thanks Skip Quote
PatS.... Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 Sorry, it's on my favorites as .org, but it's actually .com http://www.owwm.com/ This page is for DeWalt "dusty paper"...each manufacturer has it's own page: http://www.owwm.com/MfgIndex/Detail.asp?Tab=Publications&ID=252 Quote
woodscavenger Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 As much damage as a chainsaw? I disagree. A chainsaw typically gets away from someone and nails a leg or a foot. A radial ARM saw does damage to it's namesake and will take your hand or your arm. A great tool but heads up....or should I say hands up. Love the chainsaw pic! Quote
Christopher Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Im asking for a much bigger chain saw... for Christmas/// Christopher,, from the high and snowy lonesome Quote
Normspeed Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I say, don't force it, use a bigger hammer. Christopher says, don't force it, use a bigger chainsaw. Good words to live by:D Quote
