Question about an electric wiper motor

Recommended Posts

I have the electric wiper motor out off my ‘49 B-1-B, had the armature rewound, and I’m getting it back together. I wired power up to it to test it out and I noticed that on low speed the motor turns one way then on high speed, it turns the opposite way.
So my question is, is that normal? I’m guessing it wouldn’t affect the way the wipers work but if I’m got something wrong, I would like to know.
Anyone have an idea on this? Thanks

That operation does not sound correct.  If I can get caught up on chores, I have an article to present that covers restoring these wiper motors mechanically and electrically.  In short (get it? :D ), there is a parallel circuit that involves a bus bar to control motor speed...kinda sounds like some wires got crossed on your example.  But this setup is for the original motor; post some pics of what you are working on to verify ?

Looks like a B3/4  wiper motor..

I concur, that appears to be a B-3 / B-4 wiper motor, which is somewhat different from the B-1 / B-2 motor.  Ironically enough, I had retrofit a B-4 wiper motor into my '49 back in 2004, and can attest that it is not a direct swap as the geometry changed when the wiper pivots went further outboard on the B-3s.

I will do some more investigating on the circuitry differences...stay tuned

My motor been sitting on a workbench for the last month or two. I can get to do the 2 speeds but it won’t park. I’m working on other things now and having a working wiper is a big priority. If it not original to the  B-1 then I don’t where it came from.
