Mertz Posted May 6, 2023 Report Posted May 6, 2023 The cork gasket on the steering box shaft is leaking. I tried gaskacinch to glue it back together and create a new seal. It worked for awhile but now has a leak. Would an o-ring with a backer piece work to get a good seal? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 7, 2023 Report Posted May 7, 2023 To use an o-ring you need an o-ring groove properly designed for proper compression and seal. I'd drain it, clean the surfaces and make a new gasket. Quote
Mertz Posted May 7, 2023 Author Report Posted May 7, 2023 I built a wooden ring with a hole that is slightly larger than the hole in the sheet metal washer. I fit the ring inside the washer. I then put a chamfer on the inside to capture the o-ring. The final fit left the o-ring halfway in the wood ring so there will be good compression with the spring. I’d like to get more pressure from the spring so I will add a spacer behind the pitman arm. Quote
