SoundScaper Posted October 9, 2022 Report Posted October 9, 2022 (edited) Does anyone know on the base of the distributor before it goes into the engine is there a rubber washer or a rubber seal for that? There was nothing on mine when I took it off but it just seems like there should be and I can’t find a diagram 1948 dodge coupe deluxe flat six Edited October 9, 2022 by SoundScaper Misspoke Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 9, 2022 Report Posted October 9, 2022 My distributor seemed to be seeping a little oil from that spot . I just cut a gasket from some gasket material and that fixed it . Some guys have mentioned putting an o ring there . Quote
Solution Doug&Deb Posted October 9, 2022 Solution Report Posted October 9, 2022 Originally there was a cork seal. I replaced mine with a rubber o-ring. Just measure the distributor shaft and the counterbore in the block and find the correct size o-ring. Quote
Loren Posted October 10, 2022 Report Posted October 10, 2022 I was looking at a distributor the other day and it had a cork seal ring under the adjustment collar besides the one in the groove. I have noted on a block of mine there is a drain back hole under the collar. To be leak-free you might put an O-ring there too. when you can’t find an oval or square section O-ring for the groove, it is acceptable to use two O-rings in that position as long as the distributor fits in without forcing it. Tom Skinner Posted October 10, 2022 Report Posted October 10, 2022 Loren is correct. Try a good mom and pop Hardware. O Rings abound there. Quote
