jjareckijr Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 While I attempt to turn the steering wheel, and pulling back on the upper portion of the steering wheel the horn beeps. Normal driving turning right and left without pulling back nothing occurs. Have not yet pulled the horn hub to exam the wiring, but just wondering if anyone has had this occur? Quote
Sniper Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 Yes and it was the wire that was bad, the insulation on it actually. It decided to act up when the state vehicle safety inspector was doing the test drive, lol. Quote
harmony Posted March 22, 2022 Report Posted March 22, 2022 I'm not sure if they made any changes between the '48 and the '49 in the steering wheel. But it could also be loose screws. On the '48 there are 3 brass screws that hold down the brass assembly that the wire is attached to. Then there are the 3 super long machine screws that hold down the horn ring. If any of those screws are loose it can cause the two contacting surfaces that activate the horn to get too close, so that little extra movement when pulling on the top of the steering wheel might be enough to make the surfaces touch. Just a thought if the wire checks out to be in good shape. Quote
Bryan G Posted March 22, 2022 Report Posted March 22, 2022 I found I had to adjust the screws just right to get the horn to operate properly. As I recall, too tight and it wouldn't blow at all, too loose and it would blow all the time. After a few tries it seems to work fine. I couldn't find anything wrong with the wiring or connections. Tip while troubleshooting: pull the wire off the horns and hook it to a light bulb. Your neighbors will thank you 2 Quote
