woodscavenger Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Found a rebuild kit. Tore down the carb but found I am missing the choke rod, and a float retention clip (C-shaped clip). Do I need the retention clip? Where do I find a choke rod? Thanks ahead of time. Quote
claybill Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 what i did was to buy up abut 2-3 old dead carbs..for 10 bucks or so ea. they are good to scavenge parts from..i have one left over.. bill Quote
Normspeed Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 You need the float clip. Carb will be prone to flooding and leaking without it. Usually you use the one from the kit or the one that was in the carb. Not all kits have that part. Do you have the hand choke or the automatic choke? Quote
woodscavenger Posted October 29, 2007 Author Report Posted October 29, 2007 I was in the midst of the rebuild last night when I tightened the throttle valve screws (reeeeaaalllly reeaaally small brass....ie soft) which twisted off at the cap!!! I guess I need a couple of scavenge carb.....guess I will change my sign in to carbscavenger!! Quote
Normspeed Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I'm sure I have a few of those little brass screws that used to hold my choke plates to the shafts. PM me and I'll mail you a couple. Quote
woodscavenger Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 I small drill bit, some 4-40 brass screws, a tap and walla, I did my first rethread job and it worked! I also ran to a local junk yard and picked up a carb. I could only find one carter and it luckily had a retention clip. Now I need to figure out how to find the stupid paper measuring guage which was missing from the kit to set the float. Then I need to figure out how to make a choke rod setup. Does anyone have a good picture of the Carter 1barrel carb from the linkage side? Quote

Normspeed Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Shane, are you looking for manual or automatic choke photos? And by choke rod do you mean the linkage rod that connects to the auto choke unit on the manifold? Quote
Young Ed Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Anyone ever taken the throttle plate out and fixed a worn bushing in the base? I have another carb soaking at the moment thats going to be rebuilt and put on the 48. I suspect the issue with the other one is an air leak around that throttle shaft. Car is still surging at freeway speed. Quote

If it's the rod shown in Don's first photo of the front carb I have one. PM me with your address and I'll send it. Any other carb part needs? Quote
