billrigsby Posted December 29, 2021 Report Posted December 29, 2021 (edited) I know I have been all over the place on this project, but..... I am getting close to firing up the rebuild, been looking through what I have. Very little information, found this for timing and idle adjustment. Going to use this to set the timing more accurately than the info given to stab the disti during the build. Any other pointers? Greatly appreciated. Can not remember the last time I had anything with a coil, disti and points. Thanks Edited December 29, 2021 by billrigsby Quote

Thanks For all of the engines I've rebuilt and started fresh I made sure fuel was at the carburetor before I started cranking. I'm guessing you're starting this on your test stand so using an electric pump to feed the pump on the engine would be a big help. Turn the pump on and let it push fuel up to the carb filter. After that, at least as far as fuel goes, you should be good to try starting. Something I've been thinking about doing when I start my engine for the first time (very soon I hope!) is to remove the oil filter sock and using a hand oiler squirt oil into the tube on the side of the housing. This tube comes from the main oil feed and my thinking is the oil should drain down into all of the oil galleries. I'm considering this because my rebuilt engine has sat for 20+ years and I KNOW it needs lubrication. It may not be much of a concern for you since yours is a freshly built engine. Quote
billrigsby Posted December 29, 2021 Author Report Posted December 29, 2021 Not sure what is going on, I addressed the distributor/oil pump timing in early November and redid it. Now I go out and at TDC the distributor is not pointing at #7, it seems to be pointing between 2 and 4? Frustrating, not sure what to do at this point, pull the oil pump again and start over. Quote
