Doug&Deb Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 On a Stromberg carb the accelerator pump link is normally in the center hole. Has anyone seen any benefit from extending the pump stroke? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 the stroke adjustment is there to provide drivability based on your altitude and or the temperature of your climate zone....according to many folks we all will need to go the shortest stroke.... Quote
Doug&Deb Posted September 30, 2021 Author Report Posted September 30, 2021 Why the shortest? Because of the ethanol in the gas? I’m rebuilding a spare carb and I was thinking some adjustments would be needed to compensate for modern gas. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 shortest is for high altitude/extreme heat locale....longest is for cold cold climate.....adjustment for alcohol in my opinion and how I tweak my carbs is a slight lower fuel level by float adjustment to compensate for the expansion rate of the model fuel to prevent percolation. Unless you are in a high altitude, hot clime or frigid north and I mean way north....middle position should suffice for you driving conditions. I just built a set of H4 SU carbs for a small engine dual set up...I had lowered the fuel by about 3/32 and it was not quite adequate...I went about 3/16 for zero puke at run temp and saturation from the engine manifold. Percolation is real and usually the only real issue with the modern fuel. I have no room to add phenolic blocks either...so heat is a concern for me with the fuel system I have. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted September 30, 2021 Author Report Posted September 30, 2021 Makes sense to me. Thanks Quote
