I'm getting kinda discouraged with my flathead..trying to start it and having nothing but problems..first the gas tank....then the voltage regulator bein hooked up wrong (still dont know if i fried anything).....and when i changed the oil there was a bunch of water and thick mud looking white stuff in it..so it's probably junk anyways...

Anyhow...would it be less for me to rebuild it and probably trans..since it will be out anyways....or get a small block chevy and automatic trans..and how easy would it be to install the v8 and tranny? anyone ever do it?

thanks

oh yeah and the carburetor is leaking all over when i try to start it

The head gasket may have blown. Have you done a compression test?

I wouldn't bother trying to start it until you've done this test. If it's a blown gasket it's easy to install a new one.

Did you install the needle in the carb inlet?

I doubt that your trans needs rebuilding. Clutch maybe.

Please keep that sbc out of your brain and truck !!!!!

I agree with Reg. Keep going! Think of how many more new things you can learn if you keep working on the flathead. Don't worry about asking too many questions either. It gives the guys in here something to do.

Good news Kevin. You should probably figure out why the water was in the oil before you run it though. Do that compression test first.
