78w100 Posted May 8, 2021 Report Posted May 8, 2021 I’m trying to de code the I’d tag on the firewall of my Dodge Mayfair. Im sure it’s a Canadian model since I live in Canada. Im pretty sure the tag reads 949-3 4 DR SEDAN Would that make the car a 49? Which does not make sense because the Mayfair was introduced in 53 to the Canadian market. I appreciate any help in figuring out the exact year. It was a flathead 6 car but the fellow I got it from removed the motor for his truck. Quote
CaptainGTX Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 What you have is either a 1954 Dodge Mayfair (Canadian) or a 1954 Dodge Coronet or Meadowbrook (US). In either event its a 54. You can find pictures of all three online. Quote
78w100 Posted May 9, 2021 Author Report Posted May 9, 2021 Thanks so much for the reply. I’m a dodge guy but have mainly played around with 70’s and 80’s trucks. I am not proficient with the older cars and my poor attempt to decode the I’d tag just got me confused. I'm really looking forward to working on this car with my wife. Something we can cruise around in and enjoy Quote
greg g Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 Pics of rear quarter please. It may be a Plodge. Dodge front sheet metal trim and badges on a Plymouth body. These were a Canadian and Canada made for export deal. Engine should be a 25 inch block so Desoto and Chrysler will fit. Quote
RobertKB Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 Nice project. That’s a 1954 Canadian Dodge. Firewall tag is most likely D49-3. D for Dodge, D with 49 was for 1954, and the 3 indicates Mayfair. If the engine is original to the car the serial number will start with D49 as well. Engine serial number is on the block above the generator and immediately below the head. Engines were often changed out at some point and may be different. Quote
