Looking for a temp gauge sending unit

Hey all....well, the engine is done and I've had the car for a couple days, but unable to drive it because I was busy. Anyway, the mechanic accidentally broke the bulb off of the temp gauge sending unit when he was installing it back into the engine. He did replace it with a temporary after market one, but told me that if I could find another that he would pay for it. I tried looking for some on ebay, but it's all dry on sending units for the P15.

I was looking in the forun archives and I found a couple posts, not on the gauge particularly, but telling about it being swapped with a '41 sending unit screwed onto the face of the '46-'48 one. First, does anyone on here have an extra working sending to sell? Second, are there any ideas on how to repair this one?

Using the instructions for replacing the tube' date=' you can also use an aftermarket gauge to get a new tube from. The only difference would be the tube won't look the same.[/quote']

Oh...I don't care how it looks...just so it works with the old gauge. do you think it will screw onto the back of the old gauge where the old tube went?

as for screwing back into the hole in the block as original..yes most aftermarket guages come with multiple bushings to correctly fit most applications...and if not go to your local friendly and ask for the steward warner line of bushings for their guages..

Norm is referring to the fact that to replace the bulb, cut and solder (sleeve) the new bulb onto the head of your guage..stay within a couple inches...if you score a replacement bulb and tube with spring over the tube..you can acually cut a small section of the older tube and screw over the new one..do the repair and reverse screw the spring to give you a flexible non-crushable fix..
