'41 Fat Bottom Girl Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 A buddy ran into a problem. He's working on a 218 that was previously rebuilt with a 230 crank and rods etc. Back in December, Conn47D24 gave us a lead on getting a good 230 crank, he bought it, and he was able to get new rods etc for it. Now that the 218 block has been boiled out and after cleaning, he found that it is too corroded to use. He did locate a Desoto 237 ci engine (3.9 litre) with a decent block. The question: Is that block the same block used on the 218? Or maybe the same as the 230? Thanx much! Bruce Quote
keithb7 Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 I believe the 237 desoto is a 25” block. Same as Chrysler. 3 7/16 bore x 4 1/4” stroke. The USA 218 and 230 is a 23 ½” long block. Quote
Bobb Horn Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 I believe there would be an issue with the starter and flywheel spacing being a little different also. Quote
dpollo Posted January 30, 2021 Report Posted January 30, 2021 the 201, 217 and 230 all measure 23 inches along the cylinder head. 230 rods and crankshaft can be used in the 217 but not the 201 218, 228, 236, some 241s , 251 and 265 all use blocks which measure 25 inches along the head and crank with rods are for the most part interchangeable.
