Depends on your fabrication skill. The extra 2 inches will have to be accommodated somewhere.

At a minimum you are going to have to notch your front crossmember and move your radiator forward. You MIGHT be able to get with not doing that if you are willing to remove your fan and run an electric fan on the front of the radiator. I do NOT know this to be a fact, though.

I have a 251 DeSoto I plan on putting in my  42 Dodge business coupe, but it's going to be at least a year before I make the attempt. Got a chance to buy a good running one out of a daily driver a friend of my pulled to put in a 318 for 150 bucks,so I jumped on it.

MIGHT still rebuild the 230,though. Won't know for sure until I pull it out and tear it down to look.

Thanks folks!  figured as much.  Any recommendation on the best 23 inch 230?  Want to keep the original 201 as is (in storage) and beef up another flathead 6.

I'd try to find one from the middle to late 50's if it were me because they would be the ones with the latest updates and improvements.

So, Have you decided to use the Spitfire? Or, are you looking for another 23”?  I’ve got a D24 in my ‘48 Chrysler and want to go back to the original 25”! Maybe we can do a swap.

I just purchased a dodge 230 for it.  Thanks for the message and good luck on the engine search.  Internet is amazing...  I've been doing this as a hobby since I was a kid and remember buying newspapers from surrounding towns looking for parts.  If I had a car that came w a spitfire, I would DEFINITELY want that one.
