dwest999 Posted May 22, 2020 Report Posted May 22, 2020 First off, thank you to all have contributed to content related to these fickled Mopar brakes. I didn't anticipate so many nuances when I took on the task of rebuilding the brakes on my '54 Dodge Meadowbrook. So, I have a rookie question (please forgive me). I pulled apart the front brakes and cleaned up the inside of the backing plate with Grease Lighting. After scrubbing on it a bit I managed to get the plate clean (pic below). That said, I am not sure if the inside of the plate was originally painted and/or if I should repaint the plate prior to reassembly. Thoughts? Thank you. Dave Quote
desoto1939 Posted May 22, 2020 Report Posted May 22, 2020 yes paint it with a primer and then paint it a black to prevent any rusting rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com. 2 Quote
nc plumber Posted May 22, 2020 Report Posted May 22, 2020 I would paint it. I'm thinking it would begin to rust with nothing to protect it. Quote
48ply1stcar Posted May 23, 2020 Report Posted May 23, 2020 You not only cleaned them, you polished them. I used this self-etching primer on many of my parts that were brought down to the metal. 1 Quote
