minicooper Posted March 8, 2020 Report Posted March 8, 2020 Following great advice on this forum, I replaced the door glass on the passenger side of my b3c. I replaced the channel, cat whiskers and put in new clips. The bottom glass channel was a mess, where the previous glass was glued in with JB Weld. I had to use a torch to soften it up to get the broken glass out, but it finally came out. I cleaned and sanded the channel. Using a heat gun to warm it up, I folded the glass tape over the bottom edge of the new glass and held it on with some electrician’s tape. I used soapy water on the tape and carefully tapped the channel onto the glass with a rubber mallet, it went on without issue and looks great. Had a bit of trouble getting the new glass into the guides on the door, but after removing the screws from the left-side channel it went in fine. Put two new retainer clips to hold it in then rolled it up. Turns out, the glass I bought from a popular supplier, is a quarter of an inch narrower than the stock glass, I laid the other piece on top of the one I took out of the passenger side, so there is now a gap on the top right when the window is rolled up. You wouldn’t think that 1/4 of an inch would make that much of a difference. I can manhandle the glass as I roll it up and center it but what-a a pain. I was going to do the driver’s side but am now going to look for new glass. Is it better to have an auto glass company cut new glass, or is there another supplier that you have used and been happy with? lastly, and thanks for putting up with my mini rant, is there a method for adjusting or tightening up the regulator so that one can control the positioning of the glass in the door (doesn’t seem likely)? Maybe I could put some spacers or rubber tape behind the channels to narrow the opening? I appreciate the knowledge and helping hands found here, could not have gotten this far on my truck without it, Roland, Chattahoochee Hills, Ga Quote
JBNeal Posted March 8, 2020 Report Posted March 8, 2020 Have ya contacted this supplier? They might be interested to know that their pattern is off by a fat Sharpie tip...maybe they could work out a deal with ya on a return... additional information - Glass Replacement Source 1 Quote

Brent B3B Posted March 9, 2020 Report Posted March 9, 2020 I had a local glass company cut my glass using the old glass as the pattern, I am happy with the results. Hopefully the vendor will do you right. Hang in there Roland 2 Quote
