Guest Michael Racine Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Has anyone put a 360 small block or a 383 big block motor in a D-24/ What was encountered as far as firewall interference?. , problems with front sump? or??? I'd be grateful for any info. I'm using the Cavalier steering rack also. Thanks to any all who respond. Quote
oldmopar Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 A 318 will fit so a 360 would also be ok not sure about the 383 check the links for some basic install info http://oldmopar.com/p15/install318a.jpg http://oldmopar.com/p15/install318B.jpg Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 very little difference in the big block and small block meausrement..have a 383 in my 41 (same as D24)...however the firewall was altered on this car...radiator still sits ahead of mount...running stock asymetrical fan...these are great and provide 20 HP over an stupid flex fan... daddyo23 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I followed the links oldmopar posted, very helpful. The question I have is, which company makes that kit? I have a '51 Cranbrook with a vey tired 218. I've got a line on a360 with a 727 for a great price. I'd like to drop that in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Kirby D34 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Plydo, phone # 304 475-3245, sells the motor and tran mount for this swap. I swap a 318 with a 904 trans into a 1950 Dodge. Kirby D34 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 the left exhaust manifold may be your hardest item to find in order to clear the steering shaft. Quote
YukonJack Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 There are 2 different kits. One for stock steering which mounts the engine off center, one if you use the Cavilier rack which centers the engine. Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Sir You may feel that the best option is to use any modern day engine that you can get a good deal on. In the end you may have bitten a bigger bite than you can handle ( engine in, transmission in, drive shaft change, rear axle and springs change and everything 6 volt positive ground to be addressed, etc, etc, etc ) and the car will also be at an less value than what you put in it. Any machine shop in your area can over-bore the cylinders for larger pistons, turn the crank and rod journouls and still be less than what you are going to pay for the V8 assembly to be. The other part is the value of the car is improved. You may not like or want to go the restro route since it is after all, your car. Rodger & Gabby COS Quote
PatS.... Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Sirsince it is after all, your car. Rodger & Gabby COS To each his own, Rodger. It's still fun. Quote
