BobT-47P15 Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Link to the ad. They have it done up fairly neat with some goodies on it. Just tossing this out for anyone's viewing enjoyment. Those 49 bumpers fit in real well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plymouth-Special-Deluxe-Coupe-1947-Plymouth-Special-Deluxe-Coupe-Appraised-10-000_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6387QQihZ017QQitemZ270167412664QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Quote
Young Ed Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Those little trim pieces under the tail lights scare me Quote
Normspeed Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Nice car. I like the color. Those little trim pieces are shouting something about rust holes, aren't they? Quote
Young Ed Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Thats exactly what I was thinking. Quote
38plymouth Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Excuse my ignorance, how does that window air conditioner thing work? I've never seen one before. Quote
Normspeed Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 It's an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler). There's a water reservoir and a fibre mat that soaks up water. When the car is moving, air flows in the front, through the moist fibre mat where evaporation cools the air, then into the car. I think they work best in low humidity climates. They're getting really expensive these days. Quote
homebrewer Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I was seriously considering putting 49 bumpers on my 48 coupe.I had a 49 rear bumper on my original 48 back in the late 50's, but now that I have seen the pictures front and rear I think I like the look of the stock 48 front and rears without the bumper guards. Also, does anybody have an idea where to obtain a couple of 48 rear lenses with Cateyes already installed? Or a source for plastic rear lenses rather than glass so cateyes can be be put in. I don't want to mess around with drilling the glass lenses. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 19, 2007 Author Report Posted September 19, 2007 You can buy the blue dot glass lenses on ebay. There are usually some for sale most all the time. Sometimes singles.....sometimes pairs. Just watch for a while and you may be able to get a good buy. To my knowledge, there are not any plastic P15 lenses available--all are glass. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 19, 2007 Author Report Posted September 19, 2007 Now, why didn't I think of that???? Kind of ingenious little trim pieces below the tail lights. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 19, 2007 Author Report Posted September 19, 2007 Painting the swamp cooler to match the car is a kind of neat trick. They were usually grey or brown. I need to make a support like the one in the picture.....the cooler I recently got is missing that item, of course. Here's the part that goes into the car. Pull the string to turn on or off, I think. Or at least adjust air flow. Link to ad with more pics of the cooler.......http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AUTO-CAR-SWAMP-WINDOW-AIR-COOLER-VW-COOL-THERMADOR_W0QQitemZ290161942471QQihZ019QQcategoryZ42606QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Those bumper could be Briz Bumpers too. They look just like the 49 Plymouth bumpers. Not sure what to think about the chrome or stainless below the tail lights. Did they repair that area first, or did they just cover up the problem? Or do some real bad body work there and cover it up? As for those swamp coolers, they don't work all that well. To begin with, if your sitting still, they don't work at all. Will only push air into the car as long as it's moving, and of course in slow traffic that's not much air flow. I had one of those and sold it. They are more or less just for looks as far as I'm concerned. Quote
