bambamshere Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 So I bought a 354 Hemi for my 1956 Fargo. Nothing has been done to this engine. It ran about 30 years ago and needs to be sleeved. Bore is sitting at .060 right now. It is really dirty. But not seized. Been in garage for that long. Not sure what I will do with it. Frickin I know that. 1 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 what you will do with any Hemi....spend lotsa $$$$. Not a cheap engine to rebuild. Quote
bambamshere Posted May 21, 2019 Author Report Posted May 21, 2019 Not expecting it will be cheap. Take a few years to do. Quote
wayfarer Posted May 22, 2019 Report Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) "nothing has been done" "ran about 30 years ago" "needs to be sleeved" ...the very first thing that you need to do is sonic check the cylinder walls for thickness. ...the very first. The internet is full of keyboard experts who regurgitate everything they hear, whether fact or fiction, and the amount of allowable overbore is a favorite subject. Having played with these old things for the better part of four decades I can state that I have found no constant, every block varies and until you know how much wall you have you do not 'know' what you will be able to do with it. 59bisquik Posted May 24, 2019 Report Posted May 24, 2019 On a positive note, the 354 is much better for aftermarket support than say the Dodge 315-325. Intake manifolds and aluminum rockers for example. Quote
