greg g Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Today I purchased and had mounted a pair of 225r75-15's. These are 40000 mile rated economy jobs fro our friends at Poop Boyz. These went on the rear, and I kept my 205's on the front. On the floor in the service bay, I stood up the dismounted 205 next to the unmounted 225. the difference is nearly 3 inches in height. With these puppies on the car is about dead on on the speedo and 65 indicated sounds about like 75 indicated witht the 205's. Hasn't seemed to make a noticable difference in take of but second gear seems a lot more effective and flexible. Based on my short exposure to them, I would recommend this size to anyone with a standard trans and wanting a more relaxed highway cruise. Quote
oldmopar Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Difference should be about 3 mph by a online tire calculator I have been using Ed http://www.net-comber.com/tirecalc.html Quote
greg g Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 the one I used noted that rotations per mile would be reduced by nearly 40. So with a 4.11 rear does this mean engine revs will drop by 160 per mile???? OOOPS had one to many zeros. Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Hi Greg, this is very interesting to me, I currently have on my temp tires, they are P205 70 R 15. At a speedo reaing of 65 mph the car is going about 52 I figure. I also have a 3 spd and 4.11 rearend. Would getting these tires on my 47 Chrylser be an option, for fronts and rear, or could I go with 215 up front and 225 on the rears. Any chance you could send a pic of the tires on your car. I am in a boat like some of the others, trying to get my car road worthy, don't want to start making all sorts of changes and end up not finishing the car...........Fred Today I purchased and had mounted a pair of 225r75-15's. greg g Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 Tomorrow I can post some shots. Plenty of room. Left the 205's on the front so its running downhill all the time. Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 But are you running a 4.11 rearend, did you have on P205 70 or 75 tires, the tire size difference is as follows, P205 70 15 =26.29 inches in diameter, the P205 75 15 is 27.10, the P225 75 15 tire is 28.3 inches in diameter, this is quite a difference and could help a bit with a low geared rear end.........Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Okay, but is yor diff a 4.11, as mine is, and it revs up very nicely at 50 mph Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 According to this calculator, if you go with a larger diameter tire(aspect), you create a lower rear gear ratio, which is confusing me, or maybe cuz I just got off 4 -12.5 hour shifts in a row.Would you not reduce engine rpm, by having taller tires, as this is my goal, the poormans overdirve situation............Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Thanx Shel, BTW got my air filter back today, glass blasted, painted ,repaired and cleaned, looks great, needs a new Mopar decal though.........Fred Quote
