Conn47D24 Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 On the D24 block behind the water pump, there is the water tube ,and the larger round opening. The back of the water pump only has the tube opening. What is the round hole for? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 Likely for a "freeze plug". I will let those with more knowledge answer...... Quote
9 foot box Posted November 19, 2018 Report Posted November 19, 2018 I think the large block hole prevents the weep hole in the pump from plugging. And it is a bypass, till the thermostat opens. Quote

That leaked and all attachment bolts did also when warmed up to op temp. I removed the pump and redid it all using Permatex aviation sealer on all including that very rough area that cover the water ports pf the block shown in the second picture. ? DJ Quote
Conn47D24 Posted November 20, 2018 Author Report Posted November 20, 2018 Oh boy. You had the gasket too? Quote
DJ194950 Posted November 20, 2018 Report Posted November 20, 2018 I made a copy of the gasket from sheet stock and did it all again. DJ 1 Quote
_shel_ny Posted November 20, 2018 Report Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) Internal bypass hole? Not used on your block. Never mind. Read too fast. Thought you were talking about the pump hole Edited November 20, 2018 by _shel_ny 1 Quote
