Howdy all...

I was told I have 1953 engine in my car....I was wondering if anyone had a code book or someway to check it for me...what size is this engine? I found traces of light green paint on the motor if that helps.

The numbers on the block are T334*581..on the head is 3.1.54 1554677-4.....any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks much!:)

Well the "T" indicates you engine likely started it life i a Dodge truck. The "T33" is the telling part the rest is a sequence number. Depending on what year it is it is likely a 218 or a 230. the difference in the engines is the piston stroke. the stroke cn be easily measured. On the head, above number 6 cylinder is a square pipe plug. Removing this plug, will give you access to the top of the piston. You can insert a piece of still wire about 8 inches long and by turning the engine over, measure the travel of the piston and thus the stroke measurment. 4 3/8 = 218, 4 5/8 =230.

YOu might wanto post your number on the Pilothouse forum and one of the truck guys probably can pin down the year of manufacture.

Engines were basically a bolt for bolt swap and apparently these kind of car to truck truck to car engine swaps were common to keeping old MOPARS on the road. Cpmplicated of course by Chrysler and Desoto engines and Engines made in Canada which wer 25 inch blocks as opposed to the plymouth and Dodge 23 1/2 inlong blocks. Just measure the head.

The T334 would appear to be a truck engine, but not from a Pilot House light duty truck. '51 - '53 engines are listed as T306 (218) in a 1/2 ton, T308 (218) in a 3/4 ton, T310 (230) in a 1 ton, or T137 (230) in a Power Wagon.

My guess is that it's either newer than '53 or its a big block from a medium duty truck. What's the length of the engine?
