FA top speed

 Anybody have an idea how to raise the top speed of my FA? I've gotten started planning my build, but I plan to make this a daily use truck and I don't want to be stuck at 50. Yeah I know that using this as a daily driver sounds crazy. I'm getting good info about running a 6-71 to help power. I'm just not going to get too crazy trying to hurt the engine.

I'll see if my father can fab up some 24" rims and I'll use tractor trailer tires but I'd like to still find an overdrive trans or, man I hope not, swap out the rear for a higher geared 2 speed.

any ideas, would help

sorry 6-71 roots type blower.. my bad:o

How will you mate this blower that was designed for a V configured engine to a flathead 6 cylinder engine? How much boost are you looking to gain? What compression ratio is recommended? Will you overdrive or underdrive this blower?

bigdaisy;

Do you have a 52 windsor with fluid drive? Follow this link.

yes I am also working on getting that 52 in my hands and planning this truck. Don't tell my wife.

Also, the reason I was talking about adding a 6-71 root blower to the flatty is just something different. I'm thinking that it'll be my father and I standing an staring at some plate and flat aluminum for some time to fabricate something up. I really was thinking about a very modest boost. The factory compression is pretty darn low and I figure that 4-5 psi is enough. But I'd like to know peoples opinions on what that might do to parts.

thanks

The reason I say my father and I is although I think my skills are great...his are sharpened by many more years of experience than mine.

A 6-71 BLOWER???? On a FLATHEAD????? I would think that the fabrication needed for that would be just a waste of time. Oh, it could be done.... But why? I dont think that anybody would be impressed except you. I would think that an engine swap, would be a better way to utilize your combined fabrication skills. Why not a V-8 with a blower?

the unique engine that's why....I suppose it would be a ton easier to go with a turbo...just a lot less fun in the end.....besides if putting the blower on were easy it wouldn't be hot rodding.... I really would just like to make do with gearing....the fun under the hood should probably be kept to a minimum.

No need to keep the "Fun under the hood" to a minimum. Its just my opinion, that as much fabrication/engineering that it would take to put a blower in, would be better spent somewhere, that the effort would provide a larger payback. As for my truck, I had a "tunnel ram" adapter made, so that I could install a Holley 500cfm carb. So getting a little crazy is ok. I was just thinking, that if you have that kind of skill/ability, maybe something like an extended cab. I certainly meant no insult by my comments.

If it were me,I'd use a inline 6 cylinder Cummings Turbo Diesel from a late model Dodge truck.

don't worry, I've been blown up enough times that I don't get mad at much anymore :) I was thinking about the extended cab idea.. I could use the space... I wonder how much length I'd need to add for another seat back there?

As far as a changing engines goes....I'm poor and cannot afford those fancy engines... I really like the mopar flatty anyway...

Unless anybody knows where I can get a 413 six? :D

I would think that about 24-30 inches, would make a nice extended cab. By stretching it, behind the door frame, where its straight, I would think that the side windows should be no big deal at that size. Even a small bench seat, or jump seats, could be canabalized from something else. I would think though, that a complete, four door stretch, would be VERY difficult, only because the body lines dont run horizontal through the doors. A few years back, somebody on the old forum, did a cowl stretch. That was cool. Maybe he has something to add....

I did notice the door line the other day....of course with this and the 52 Chrysler project I don't know where I'll find the time to strech the cab...

the more I talk with my father the more I want to just leave most of it alone and just find a way to add more gearing.... especially if I'm going to have to share the FA with my father.... he talks more and more about things to do with it.... so I suppose I'd better just fix the gearing....
