Mario Loya B1B Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 I hope you don't laugh too hard at the subject of this post, because its a serious matter. Just decided to check the oil level in my truck this morning and had a terrible mishap. Can anyone help a brother out? Anyone willing to sell a spare? Is welding it an option? Quote
greg g Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Sure weld it and then grind the weld smooth. Might want to v grind the joint a bit then mig it. Shouldn't be a problem. Quote
bach4660 Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 if it doesnot weld I think I have an extra one that I acquired when the tube snapped off just above the threads. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 There just happens to be a dipstick for sale on ebay. Not sure if it's the same length but you can always write the guy and see if it might work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DIPSTICK-FROM-FLAT-SIX-MOPAR-DESOTO-DODGE-PLYMOUTH-1951_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQihZ006QQitemZ160050830026QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted November 13, 2006 Author Report Posted November 13, 2006 Didn't think to search ebay. Thanks Bob. I just sent the seller an email. Bach4660, Thanks for the offer. I may have to hit you up, if the other options don't work out. Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted April 24, 2007 Author Report Posted April 24, 2007 A few months a go I decided to try JB Welding the broken dipstick. Looked pretty solid and well....you guessed it...just an hour or so ago when I was checking the oil level, only one part of the dipstick came out of the tube. I have been unsuccessful in pulling the broken piece out. In fact I think I might have pushed it in further. My question is how does the dipstick tube detach? Is my only alternative to remove the oil pan? It seems possible that if I remove the drain plug, I may be able to fish it out from there. Also, I am somewhat concerned about maybe some of the JB weld having flaked off. Can that cause serious damage if I run the engine? Would removing the pan be the best solution. I do have a cork gasket that has been needing installation due to a very small but somewhat annoying leak. Suggestions? Quote
greg g Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 The tube is an interference fit. should come out with some wiggle and pull. You might need to get some pliers on it and twist a little also. Quote
greg g Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 OOPS just looked better at the pic. I am not sure about the tube in the oil pan, that may be more than just pushed in. Quote
dsquared Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Can you remove the oil fill pipe and fish out the broken dipstick ? The oil fill is just a press fit. Doug. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 The dip stick tube may just un screw from the block. Quote
grey beard Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Mario, I have a spare dipstick and tube from a truck engine. The tube threads into the pan on mine. You may have either or both for the shipping cost. Just lert me know. Regards Quote
