Guest jtw3749c Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Be careful! I did hear of a scam like that. They use the Globle rasport thing and not sure how, it all worked, but you wound up getting SCREWED BIG TIME. The one I heard of was a deal on Ebay. Be Careful!! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 I'd be real careful with that deal. I also would not give them the car without full payment, regardless of the reason. In addition to the above, cash is great. However, there's a lot of bogus money floating around the world. I'd tell them you'll make the deal at the bank. Before you give them the keys or title, I'd have the bank look at the money to make sure it's the Real McCoy. Quote

DONT DO THE DEAL UNTILL YOU HAVE A POSOTIVE DEPOSIT.A LOTT OF THINGS CAN GO WRONG.!!!!!!!!!.I DEAL WHITH PEOPLE DAILY THAT TRY A LOTT OF STUFF. NO POSITIVE DEPOSIT NO DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!.THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION TAKE IT FOR WHAT ITS WORTH!!!!!!!!!! Quote
PatS.... Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 If there is no deposit, they are not sold. Deposit can be PayPal, Western Union, etc. You should leave them listed until the deposit comes through and any BS should be a red flag. BEFORE they are picked up and leave your possession, they MUST be paid for by CASH. They don't get to hold on to a grand and take the car, they get nothing until the car is paid for in full. You will lose the grand AND the car! They don't run the sale conditions, YOU DO!!! Better to be firm and lose the sale than to lose the cars and the money. (Just my 2 cents Canadian) Quote
Normspeed Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Sounds like good advice there Pat. Darn, you Canadians are TOUGH. Must be the hockey:p Quote
PatS.... Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 I have learned the hard way that I am the place where the buck stops and I have to be the one to make that fact perfectly clear to everyone I deal with at work. I am normally a puppy dog, but at the drop of a pin, I'll be a pitbull to both the contractors and management. They back me up or I hit the road. Nobody else want's this job and besides, they know I'm usually right. That attitude now follows me into other areas. I have a very low BS quotient now and when I detect BS, well, it's my way or the highway and in this case if that means losing a sale, so be it. Living in an ice cold igloo tends to make you short-tempered. Getting the crap kicked out of you on the rink is OK because you always get to do it back. Great stress release. Although I'm to fat for the ice now:o Quote
builtfercomfort Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Get the pink first, then you are covered. This could be legit, could be scam, can't tell yet. One thing I've done in situations like this is ask the buyer for personal recommendations - people who know him and where they work / live - and called them. One guy disappeared when asked, the other came through (he ended up selling the car locally, but he was not a scammer). Quote
55 Fargo Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 I know sometimes people will buy a "pig in a poke". I would have them wire you the money, ie Western Union, that way it's documented and legit.Or a certfied cheque, bank draft, postal money order. This should be done prior to the release of the cars....Fred Quote
Brad Lustig Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 If it is on the up and up (sounds scammy to me) let them retain only enough to get the pinkslip ($250 at the most). Everything could very well go off as planned, but things could also go bad real quick. Are the cars so nice to make up for the cost in shipping? Quote
glendale Posted August 11, 2007 Author Report Posted August 11, 2007 thinks guys i'll will update you tommorow. i've done a ton of research on the people and everthing points to legit. i went a bought a currancy pen to make sure the money is real and i have about six buddies coming over. so i'm gonna play it through. also the cars are for sure nice enough to recoup his investment. he would probably be pissed if he knew how much i stand to make if this pans out. look for my update tommorow. and start looking for updates on the plymouth now that i can afford to work on it. Young Ed Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Glendale make sure you hold them up to the light too. I've personally seen bad bills that would pass the marker test. The bills all have a strip that say usa 100 or whatever the bill is. They take 5s and bleach them so they pass the marker test but when you hold it up to a light it says usa five instead of 100. The watermark face doesn't match the printed face either. Quote
